The latest installment of images from the van 4 full days with it, (never done this before, only 1 or 2 half days per week previously), repaired and prepped bumpers ready for primer and stonechipped dash units (wanted the textured look underneath Seagull grey topcoat so thought of this, if it doesnt work its flatting back and doing again but, have seen some stuff done before so should be happy). then some pics of the steering gear (Red 9 Design) painted and installed with the column in as well, front and rear brakes, discs, calipers and drums etc installed and painted as required for protection. Next job is sound deadening and insulation with the wiring loom, so coming along.
Latest instalment of Bitsy's resto, I have spent most of the summer hols doing stuff on the bus in a brave attempt to finish it by Christmas. Installed loom, some brake parts discs, etc brake pipes, gear lever, shifter rods, gearbox, sound deadening, handbrake cables, pedals, most light fittings and a few other bits. The key problem so far has been some of the cable guide tubes are blocked (clutch, accelerator so far so need replacing). Brake servo plate for the red9 set up is the wrong bolt layout so am fabricating a new one before welding on, dash panels to be painted then fitting, bumpers just need painting then fitting, front ones need to be specially mounted as no holes present, so bit of work there. Then its on to tidying up the inside and painting the viewable bits the correct colour, insulation then headlining and rest of the interior. So lots done over the 5 weeks really pleased, have put some pictures but, not great as still has lots of gear inside and around the van, but, will try get a few better ones over the next few weeks.
At the moment its set at its highest which according to red9design is 3" down but, I am not quite sure its that low I will measure the hub centre to wheel arch on Friday when go and let you know.
Just putting the servo and master cylinder in and seem to have too many connections on the ms. Back left one to front brake. Front left to front brakes, rear right has switch but, then 2 more connections on right???? Can I just blank them off?
A few of the next installment, refurbished the driveshafts and cv joints then fitted. Insulation on the roof and all the brakes finished except for the upper reservoir and servo vacuum pipes. Also refurbished the locks, handles and Bulkhead trims (all painted, some in seagull grey and others in mango green, colour coded) started on the wheels photos to follow.
Edited the post and redone the pictures hopefully you can see them now, strange but, they are on my feed???
yep, looks great - this is a great build. love the quality and attention to detail, and i also have red9 envy its going to be a new van when its done. in fact, scrub that - its going to be better than new.
I just hope the Red9 front end works as good as it looks. Its going to be quite a day driving it for the first time having never driven one in the first place, ever!
Just a few pictures of the cargo floor are in primer and then painted in Seagull grey along with the wheels, my first attempt at spray painting, not perfect but, not too bad for an area which is hidden anyway.
