Been in tears last 2 days. Sent my van for a cheap spray job and it's come back damaged.

If I was the insurance company I'd not touch it in this circumstance.

You've willingly given it over to a 3rd party, in this case a business in which case their insurance companies cover damages.

@janerodger did you engage the movers and pay them yourself or was all that arranged through the sprayer?

I suspect it's the latter...they act as agents on the sprayers behalf, subbed by him....I would nominate it's all on him.

  5. O dear. :(

  6. this. one payment to the 'sprayer' that covered the movers payments too? then movers were definitely the sprayers subcontractors.

  8. He is lucky I didn't go down there. Fortunately have a sensible other half who stopped me as I would be a subject to her majesty's pleasure now.

Guess so, will not be important who the movers where then. Expensive solicitor time then :(

  10. Pay them a visit (they won't like that as you can see them squirm) with all your documents, photos & necessary proof that the van was fine before it left your posession. Maybe take a couple of (very large) knowledgable blokes. No disrespect ladies, but @janerodger should play them at their own game, they possibly think you are a weak woman so take a couple of NOT weak men with you. Someone on here may want to volunteer? Ask for all your money back as, after all, you supplied materials so have only paid for labour which has cost the bodyshop nothing but time. If this happened at our place we would bend over backwards to put it right but we wouldn't send it out unless it was right in the first place! Also trading standards may be interested in this garage as that paint job is atrocious. Shocking!

Problem with trading standards is they would send out an independent specialist to do a report, then it's up to you which way you go with it. I had one after spending large amounts on a stag. Before it got to court the firm went bust.

  12. I have had the offer off a couple of debt collectors to go down there and sort it out but worry about repurcussions as they have my address and know where my van is parked.

  14. No need for the heavies I don't think, just a couple of chaps who won't take any bull..... put your case to them firmly & request your money back, they won't want adverse publicity so should cough up. If not then court it is which they won't want either

  15. The aim is for Jane to get her money back for the crap paint job, then she hits them for the damage done. She can use the £1600 on other (more important than paint) things on her bus. Even if she used it to repair the damage she has a free (albeit crap) paint job. The threat of trading standards & a steadfast approach should see money returned.
@janerodger don't do any deals with these guys (deals don't pay bills & an offer to respray won't fix the damage), just get your money back even if it means cutting your losses & ask on here before committing to anything in the future. Btw it looks as though your van has almost come off the flatbed altogether sideways at least the back end anyway thus shearing the heat excangers etc & landing with a bump on the side rail of the trailer. Was it loaded forwards, do you know?

You need to know the size of nutter and lengths said nutter will go to, including who they know before you go that route.

The small claims court has been online for over 10 years now and is a cinch to use...that is absoloutely the right way to go.
