Good shout @72wilma I feel the light entertainment channel was the best on the day I was born It's surprising how many names have until recently still been going! In fact Nicholas Parsons still is
Plenty around. Bush made bazillions of them. On a Sunday night, you can still get "Sing Something Simple"...
A rare talent for rendering anything musical down to a dismal dirge You missed out that other horror The Archers....my first introduction to what English country life was all about. Oh G*d its all coming back to me...the trauma of it..Billy Cottons Band Show, Reginald Dixon at some organ or another. All surrounded by people who only did Yorkshire speak. Three years of it and I was glad to go home.. Bush must have exported all over the world, my parents had a seemingly monstrous set with a dial that offered everything Rome, Hilversum, Moscow etc.etc. though despite having a horizontal aerial strung above the roof all I can remember hearing on it were the slightly wobbly tones of Lily Bolero and some weird station in Venezuela.
Bush are even doing a digital version these days http://www.bushaustralia.com.au/product/heritage-bluetooth-digital-radio/ Don't let @Birdy hear you say disparaging things about The Archers.
I love the archers! Birdy and I often text/message each other during the omnibus. This weekend's going to be a momentous one @Birdy hold onto your hat sweetie, it's going to be epic!!!
It was all fairly dirge-like. I still can't listen to the Archers, even today. Bush today only going as a trade name, unfortunately. Made some cool-looking transistor sets, but by that time the (very perceptive) Japanese had moved in big-time.
I think you're both very sad indeed, but it's encouraging that you find comfort in another sufferer ...
Don't worry, you can download the podcast and then metal bash and shout at Rooooths bad decission making
Evidently not...is this some kind of punishment? Would a plea of temporary insanity help in mitigation?
