  1. Just to throw another spanner in, Wilma is an automatic, a hannover build?

  2. Oh yes, forgot about the endless adaptations of accelerator linkages. mine has a long rod across the floor under the pedals.

  3. Mine is a sept 72 but doesn't have a fuel flap......!

  4. i don't have a top access hatch to my fuel tank... well, not an official one but a tin opener sorted that :D

  5. that is good news, it means you have a better chance of sourcing a new petrol tank should you ever need to. The earlier ones are getting harder to get hold of.

  6. Doesn't necessarily matter. When I first got my '73, the early tank in it was completely shagged, but the guy who fixed it for me managed to fit a late tank.

  7. No writing on my indicater stalks.

  8. Like this? I've been painting the floor... I should have painted the accelerator pedal (which is disconnected from the linkage in the photo) too

Yes sorry read it wrong, This fits the thread theory:thumbsup:

  13. .....I suspect that the panel had been replaced at some point. That might explain it!

  14. This may or may not be relevant to the thread (sorry if it's not).
I once worked in a modern car factory (BMW mini) all the parts we used were under constant development and change. Sometimes a part would be changed and used for a while, then it could change back to the original for no apparent reason. Or it may be changed to another totally new part. This could be for any number of reasons, redesign, safety, price of part, ease of production, trouble with suppliers, a cargo ship sinking(this happened. We nearly ran out of gear boxes) :)
In short every part was liable to change at some point with no definite model change, obviously big changes are easy to trace to a specific year but with all the little changes it would be nigh on impossible to pin down to specific dates.
    It's ze German efficiency.

Sorry may have gone off on a tangent. :)

I think you are right as regards mechanical parts, But the 73 model year is distinct in mainly body panel features, They all seem identical in respect of body parts. Aug 73 saw the petrol flap go and from what we can find out the full on late body type definitely began then. Also it appear most have identical mechanicals within a certain range of options.

  16. Interesting thread this cannot believe I missed it.

I will check the dates of mine exactly but, it has petrol flap, under drivers seat brake reservoir, door locks on the door card, 3 heater levers, prototype bay slider and door handle lock, flared arches, early steering wheel and column, no servo (it has now), front discs, squarer vents in the rear pillars, high front indicators (it has low ones now), large rear lights (it has small ones now), the late bay footwells and originally late bay bumpers (early ones now), grey dials, 3 screw headlight rims.

I am not sure of the exact dates as the M plate is not original, the passenger seat back had been previously butchered and removed and then at a later date another fitted which has the M plate from the donor vehicle. The original colour of my van was metallic blue but, if I remember rightly the M plate says it belongs to a orange van.

I will dig the details out (m plate I have etc) and put them up but, I think mine was one of the very latest ones with some early features still in it.

If you put up some pictures of the steering column, dash, deffo panel and petrol flap, we can probably tell you in minutes whether it's a bone fide 73 model year or not.

A dead giveaway is tow sticky out t bits either side of the deffo panel join. They only left them sticking out on the 73 model year.

Unless they have been cut off.

  20. There won't be a next owner unless he is related in which case he will get it for free and cannot complain!!:chewie:
