Hi Mate Just returned to the site, after while away, and read your excellent thread Very well documented and some brilliant work done throughout - only problem is it makes it look so much easier as you can't add the hours faffing about prepping stuff and making the replacement panels fit! I'd set the target of this years Vanfest to have ours ready but started a new job in Feb which knocked me back as I had to work for a living again! Looking at Camperjam for a rolling shell now but need to get the garage cleared so I can get at her again so just need to re grow a pair and get on with it Looking at the resto thread I can still see some of the ones I was following in progress (diddymen / drunkaardvark to name a couple off the top of my head) but my old thread seems to have gone with the change to the new site Will keep an eye out for you as we quite often head across to the Norfolk coast (white T5 pop top, limo tints, range rover alloys etc) and good luck with the fiddly bits! Mr B
not thinking of getting another project are you?? .....just noticed you were asking about body rollers on Kanks thread ;D
of course this one is nearly comin to an end....i will have lots of spare time - i need summit else to do, besides the beetle project i got the other week
finally, i've managed to get some more time on the bus I've so far today managed to get all the door cards modified and fitted - modified due to the complete set i bought from vanfest not fitting very well, holes in the wrong place, and the MDF is too thick for the VW clips i have, so i have had to use the router and remove some material from around each hole so the clip will fit flush and not protrude on the outside face. Also the clips are larger than the standard vw ones, so i've had to drill all the holes in all the panels out to 8.5mm and fit larger gromets, that i managed to get from the wurth man at work...... Anyhoo, this is all done, then i got on with the floor in the back. I got some 5mm ply, and fitted this in the lower section of the cargo floor area, then got a sheet of 12mm PLY, and cut this tight between all edges and front and back. I then marked on this the edges of the raised sections of floor, and routered the back out of the ply so it sits down flush everywhere, and is not much higher than the original flooring. Also i have cut a bit inbetween my home made front seat bases, so tomorrow it's ready for the vinyl. I need to remake the bed base, as its been sat outside for a year or so, and is fairly swollen and warped, then once the bed is fitted, and i have measurements, then i can get on with constructing some units. will post some pics tomorrow night just thought i'd update you all......
yes matey, i do indeed, i was talking to him about you only a week or two ago, he has popped over to gimme a hand with my bus, and i've stopped by his for a coffee very nice chap, speaks very highly of you too .... When mine's on the road, i'll pop over and say hi matey, ely is where you're at isnt it?? Im still havin some majore engine trouble for some reason, still not running right stupid thing, and im almost out of ideas...... Anyhow, here's some pics..... door cards going in........ then door cards being marked up for where the diamond stitching will be going.... then the first layer of flooring... then the 12mm ply on top, routered out on the back for the floor recesses. then the rock and roll bed goes in......to check for size and fitment before i go about making a new one..... the new bed sides... and the new bed, mocked up and fitted into place..... Im now deciding whether to go for a fridge, or just use a 12v cooler, then i can decide what tap, sink and hob i want, or if i need a grille, before embarking on some cupboard work
great work mate, that must have taken some time routing out the floor, did you do it so it fits in all the recesses snugly?
yeah, done it so it drops in between the recesses neatly, so that a i didnt have to pack the middle of the floor up so much, and b, well there is no b, h aha, just so i didnt have to lose so much headroom. O0 I fitted a new eleccy ignition to it again saturday, runs much better now, just needs a fine tune i think.....fingers crossed, i might have actually got somewhere..... Still got to buy some wood, ended up spending the interior wood money on a new set of boots for my corrado vr6, so gotta save up a bit again now, lol....
good effort mate! what colour did you spray the van? We have a "baby blue" van, but it is a non standard Chrysler colour. You colour looks just sweet!
Great looking resto, top work. Given me lots of ideas for mine and the colour combo is quite close to what I am looking at as well Is that spray booth a marquee based one - looks quite useful! Cheers, MM
Fantastic work and a great thread. Well done 8) You can sort mine out if you are getting bored Karma for a great thread
thanks every1 for your kind words.....what do u need doing to yours dogsndubs?? lol, always open for a challenge The colour is Guinea Blue and Lotos White - both are a vw colour, the top colour looks a very creamycolour outside, and i think really makes the blue look more of a period colour i love it, though it always makes me fancy an ice cream, lol..... I have been offered some oak faced ply, so hopefully the interior will all be made from that - should look pretty sweet if all goes well
i've been playing again ha ha ha........ finally got round to having a couple of days off work to get on with some interior designing and building Managed to get hold of some oak faced ply to construct the interior from, and a bit of solid oak worktop blockboard from that well known auction site we all know and love hopefully after next weekend, and a couple of evenings this week it'll all be ready to take out and varnish up, and send my door cards off to my mates dad for trimming to match the front seats.... O0 here's the pics..... What ya think?? looking good i reckon O0 Just gotta get the worktop fitted, sink cut out, and then plumb it all up
