Are new Citroens as bad as they seem?

  1. French cars are brilliant. I've got a megane r26 track car. Great things.
As the AA guy said the other day when it wouldn't start..... Brilliant, just don't let them get wet. That's when the problems start

  2. I don't know what people do to their cars to come to the conclusion they are junk.

Service them, drive them reasonably sensibly and mine seem to be fine, including lots of Citroens and Renaults down the years.

  3. I think they must be like Apple Mac computers. People dislike them just because...

    ... they're badly built.

  5. Not the ones I have owned

I hired a Peugeot a little while ago (different marque; same build quality).
At anything over 70mph the tops of the doors started pulling away meaning I could barely have a conversation with the guy next to me.
    Quality.

  7. A bit like driving a bay then :p

    Very similar.
My bay is almost 40 years old though, the Pug was brand new...

  9. Our family wagon is a citroen berlingo diesel.... Had it for 6 months now, 2009 with 120k miles. Seems to have aged very well, and i really rate it. Sliding doors & tons of space for a smallish car. Every other taxi round where i live is either a berlingo or the peugeot version. I'm told they're super reliable if you keep it serviced....

  10. I loved both of my Dyanes, they were both cheap to run and reliable. The Xantia was a company car, bought new, and the warranty definitely took a pounding. Loads of stupid little things kept going wrong and it seems that the designers were interested in the big concept stuff, but not in getting the detail right.

  11. But I don't understand the concept of rating all Citroens as bad, because you once hired a Peugot.

  12. Had a citroen van really very good better than the pos vauxhall I've now got

  13. I have Citroen C3 currently but have owned/driven lots of berlingo style vans & swear by them. However the trouble is Citroen developed these cars & vans then sold on the plans to other manufacturers such as peugeot (partner is the same model as berlingo) but in an effort to save money didn't produce them quite the same.

I hire cars at least every other week.
I drive from Lyon - Clermont many times a year which emulates pretty much all road types and conditions.
My opinion is based on dozens of Renaults and Peugeots, not one.
    ;)

  15. I loved my Xantia, but I bought it as used and after a couple of years replaced it with a new Xsara Picasso. The only new car I have ever had. The CX 2.4 Pallas was amazing to drive. It was fully automatic, as opposed to Citroens C Matic system. I think that was the first car I had with power steering, and with 2 1/2 turns from lock to lock was awesome for reverse parking. First time I drove it I nearly turned full circle when swinging it round a corner. My C5 was also a lovely car to drive. I could cruise a 90mph (shhh) and have a quiet conversation.
I am definitely considering a Cactus as my next car. I currently have a C1, but it is a bit small.
Did I mention the fact that really like Citroens? But each to his own I suppose. I would never have a Ford, and I don't like red cars

  16. We will have to agree to differ

  17. They don't sell the plans to Peugeot as they are the same company! Peugeot took over Citroen in 1975 when Citroen were almost bust. Identical vehicles such as the Partner and Berlingo almost certainly come down the exact same production line in the same factory somewhere.
