Right hand drive for me, left hand drive on these roads, no thanks, especially in the countryside, I collided with a merc last week but only the wing mirror damaged thank god! Oh and aren't all of our buses imports by the way, from across the water?? Remember ze Germans?
Tilly is LHD born in Germany served in the Swedish forces now happily driving in UK without a problem but loves to visit the Autobahn occasionally
Mines RHD - I'd hate to be driving round the Cornish lanes in a left hooker, plus, eventually even a LHD bus will rust over here - mines had the work done so I'm only having to preserve it the same way as someone who has imported one from US etc is having to do. I can drive in the 'normal' position for the UK and my slider opens towards the pavement if parked on the correct side of the road (as opposed to facing oncoming traffic)
I agree Neptuneblue , Its safety at the end of the day , i dont like asking the wife or kids if it is safe to overtake even if it's not often ,and you don't want to be nudging out to see all clear . If i drove all the time abroad on holidays I would consider a LHD .If i did buy an import LHD i would swap it back to RHD its just personal choice . It really stems back when i once had the job of pre delivery checks on LHD army trucks and landrovers due for abroad , you had to road test them I just didn't feel comfortable in them .
Mines a lefty. Really doesn't bother me as I'm never going fast enough that it bothers me if I'm on the left or right. In 2 and a half years I've only needed to overtake 1 car, plus it's rock solid underneath and I know the few small bits that have been welded which was the main reason I bought LHD. On the getting in on the wrong side issue. My camper is fekin huge and bright orange my car is 4 foot closer to the ground and is grey. You lot drink too much
I welcome anyone to come and have a crack in my L and R then give their well informed opinion. I have a 99% confidence of which way they'd prefer to roll in future
The same way (probably) as your car. They sweep from the left to the right. This is so you don't end up with a curved unswept section of windscreen in the view of the driver. To be honest it doesn't make very much difference, it's just that the Australian government insisted that VW change the sweep before they were allowed to import vans into Australia. The main thing about it is that you can enter "smug" mode whenever the Left/Right hand drive posts come up, which is about once every four or five months.
RHD as it was the first van I saw! (think I got fairly lucky having seen some of the rust buckets on here - mine is just a little rusty!)
However you pay for "smug mode" when time comes to repair your front panel and the extra time spent moving and aligning the holes for the wipers. And the fact that parts for Australian wipers are like hen's teeth.
I have both and driven both, but the worst to drive is a LHD split panel on the motorway you can't see s**t!! Both have there plus and minus points.
