    Sheer insanity

  2. It smells of early 1930's to me, when the world (even just us and France together) could have easily stopped Hitler before he annexed the Rhineland and started making arms again.
We all (not me obviously) saw that twunt's behaviour and did nothing about it.
So instead of a few thousand casualties in Europe, tens of millions, worldwide, died.

Makes some of the political manifesto's at the last election, both here and above the border look like a terrible option, they are distancing themselves from it now!

  7. SO..
whats going to be the solution to large communist countries,
    taking over neighbouring countries,

in the long run Putin is not going to stop at one country...
and he's likely to be around for decades..

    the west seems impotent..:(

Where would he go next though? Finland? If he attacks the Baltic states we are obliged to get involved. It’s just a pity that Ukraine wasn’t given NATO membership yonks ago

  11. What also worries me, is not if/when we will end up in a nuke-slinging match with Russia (not very likely unless someone gets desperate or 'accidentally' pushes a button) but if Nato is distracted (rightfully) with the Ukraine situation, China (Russia's close ally) may decide to go for Taiwan which they have long contested belongs to them (incidentally also a large swathe of Indo-china), and North Korea who have a majority poverty-stricken population may take their chances crossing the DMZ (what have they got to lose?) This would be the best chance to improve their lot they're ever going to get.

There really is a risk of WWIII. The pieces are already in place.

You could argue that Russia is just claiming back what it lost 14 years ago when it was to skint to fight it during the dissolution of the soviet Union

  20. This is the big risk. Together with the destabilisation of Europe, Belarus have seemingly taken sides already.
