Apparently world war three

I know what you mean ...you just wonder what you will view every time you wake up .
I hope to see one morning a dead leader Putin being carried away looking as pale and lifeless as when he was alive .
Or better still Russian people dealing with him in a Mussolini end fate style .

 

Hopefully, nothing more sinister than orders to take the plant offline and thus deny the local population access to yet another utility and convenience of modern life, electricity.

 

Sanctions and the like will strangle Russia eventually. Russia may have some reserves of money and weapons but they are using these up fast, they don't have a bottomless pit of resources and soon Russia will be seriously weakened and collapse. Oil and gas won't save them and even the sales of oil and gas now are declining fast so their future earnings will be hit hard. Countries buying their oil and gas are already making plans to shift suppliers and increase green energy.

With a junk reputation Russia would not be able to get loans or investments as they are a poor risk.

Sadly the effect of all this will hit the ordinary Russian people very hard as their country is closed off from the World. They are suffering now as Roubles are worthless and inflation is rising out of control and any money they have would not buy anything left to buy.

Serves them right.

Meanwhile we should all do our bit to help Ukraine and the refugees. Hopefully we will take them in with open arms as they are our European brothers and after all we turn a blind eye to the 80.000 boat people last year from Iran Afghanistan and Syria. The Ukrainians are friendly and educated and will settle well in the UK, let them in I say and do it now.

 

I believe we should treat all refugees fleeing war equally, wherever they come from.

Interesting that our national debt is 10x Russia's!

Also interesting that their population (177M) is only about 2.5x the size of ours (67M) considering what a huge country it is.

That's a bit harsh. With Putin rigging elections and his draconian clampdown on dissidents and factual news, it's very difficult for normal Russians to orchestrate a rebellion. Mrs P has friends in Russia from the Poodle breeding and showing community and none of them are very happy about what Putin is doing. I think the only people who can bring Putin down are the rich and influential.

 

I wonder if the call will go up for an International Brigade to be formed - or if the modern world has the stomach for it..........?

Yes in the coaching boat, although I am just an able body. Serious racing coaching for the Cadet Class sailors.

 

Meanwhile Putin has closed a Russian TV News station because they mentioned the war, no doubt they will be imprisoned. Putin has also threatened people with jail if they spread 'fake news' about the war. So just how many jails has Putin got.

Russians with money are leaving in droves by any means they can only the poor peasants will be left soon as they can't escape. Those remaining are buying up what little goods are in the shops as escalating inflation would put future purchases beyond reach. Never mind they can drink themselves into oblivion with all that vodka nobody wants.
