Glad someone brought that up. I have a question. Does anyone else hget the impresion that when you go to Derbyshire they dont actually seem to want you there. I dont find it the most welcoming place. Sort of how the Lakes used to be! Could just be me I spose.
I'm from Derbyshire - Bakewell is a classic example of that, chuffin snobs! Crich was too (in the Peak Practice days), there was a lot of big city hot shots came to the vollage as a result, got very much that way for a long while
the south approach to snowden is a great "walk" - take the watkin path starts about a mile from the youth hostel at bryn gwynant - features bog walking, scree scrambling, paved paths and a lovely traverse 100 meters or so from the peak - about 4 foot wide with a sheer cliff face drop to the right. you dont need ropes but just need to be sure footed on the traverse if the wind is up. only trouble is you have to go back the same way to get back to the car park or get a cab from the carpark the other end. i did it last year aged 43 and we had a 14 year old with us.
I was sh@gged after it but its a once or twice a year thing now as i do it with my brother so not intending to give up just yet
The views are amazing and it costs nothing. you meet all the tourists at the top who have walked the paved path and they haven't seen half of what you have seen. Just need to be confident where you are going like any walk in the country. not sure the van can cope with the inclines though
