Dicky you heathen. It's the beginning of the Pennine way - not a bad walk?

The top of Kinder Scout is like a scene from a 70's Dr Who episode on planet cyberman. A truly fabulous place.

When I was little and went with my parnts, shrews came out of the stone wall in front of the post office for crisps.
20 years later I went back there with my kids and the shrews were still there thriving on crisps. That was nearly 20 years ago, I hope they're still there.

  3. Im originally a Penine dweller so it didnt register as being that special. Penine way - thats for pretentious types to want to walk isnt it?

  4. 268 miles of walk apparently

  8. kinder scout is a great walk - park in the carpark in Edale, walk up to Kinder via rock path and back again. a brilliant walk if its a dry day.

I walked it when I was about 20 all in one go. That was before it was paved. It was a great experience walking so far - up past hadrians wall. I would have turned round and walked back if I wasn't skint. The best thing is the way you are taken just far enough away from any large town or city you really forget it's all there.

    10/10 from me.

We carried our gear and camped - mostly wild camped - I bet you couldn't nowadays. One farmer charged us 10p each, which was laughably toke even then, then came round at 6 in the morning to wake us up with a bag of bantam eggs - he was worried we'd overslept.

Another time in the middle of the moors where you could see for miles the ere was a sole house like a vicage with an old lady serving cream teas on a freshly cut lawn - surreal!

I could go on, but it was one of the best things I've done in my life.

  12. I like cicular walks and point to points but cant be doing with walking to somewhere and then walking back. Seems to be no reason for it!

Rick you live in North Yorkshire, right inbetween the dales and the moors :) Why on earth would you wanna go to derbyshire

  18. Im still young in the grand scheme of things and during my forces days could cover rough ground at a decent speed across a large distance

Lifes thrown me a few blows and id struggle to get anywhere near what i used to cover and i travel a lot lighter now than i used too

The bonus ive found is nowadays going at a slower pace actually allows me to enjoy my surroundings and notice more of whats around me
Plus i love just sitting down when i want to and knocking up a brew and smoke
