Anyone else struggling to stay chipper?

  1. I went to the docs because I'm low and tired and stuff. Did some blood tests. Turns out I have a massive vitamin D deficiency. Doc says it is a silent epidemic as we live indoors more and put suncream, hats and shades on in the summer. Apparently we need to expose face, eyes and forearms in the summer months for half an hour a day.
I'm also a naturally miserable git so I'll probably find that even with a full vitamin dose I won't be doing much smiling...

I'm personally delighted that cheese is a good source of vitamin D...
...and calcium and the magnesium that converts the vitamin D into it's active form so it aids said calcium absorption.

    I love cheese...:D

  7. The old winter blues, another gloomy grey drizzly February day. Its normal for here.

I was brought up on cheddar cheese and whole milk and lots of seasonal veg and fruits, eggs, some meat and a little fish. No junk food in those days or supermarket ready meals with the added salt and sugar.

Spring is coming and the days are noticeably longer. I walk every afternoon for an hour in all weathers and its mood lifting. I like the wildlife and feed the birds with mixed seeds and tubes of sunflower hearts.

I saw a Robin yesterday with a beak full of moss for nest building, so they think Spring is nearly here. The hazel trees are covered in their yellow catkins, another sign of Spring and snowdrops are flowering.

  8. Ooh what a nice thought. I would have years ago. But now with the diabetes and heart stents, I have to watch my cholestral :(

  9. I felt the same last year - depression, lack of drive, couldn't concentrate and doc also found a massive vit D deficiency. He said could be a symptom of something else so had further tests and found severe testosterone deficiency (no giggling at the back), of which lack of vit D is a consequence, and which led to calcium deficiency, so much so that I had early stage osteoporosis. Now being injected every 3 months and feel great - I was a naturally miserable git too but my missus says I'm not any more! Gents if you feel the same and of a similar age (early 50s) go get checked out - men have hormones too and its amazing how our moods and health are affected by chemicals...

  10. This is actually true: your brain is easily fooled. It assumes that because you're acting happy, you are. Same goes for physical movement and posture.

    Yes.
You've only to repeat to yourself you are happy and positive enough over time and you will become it.
There is truth in the 'power of positive thinking' phrase.
    It can't hurt to try.
