When i first got my van i just loved tinkering, i know i've only had it a year and a bit but i just couldn't wait to change and make things and make it mine, recently you may know it's rained in through the screen damaging my kick panels, relays and carpets, i also found the american owner had cut the plastic from the door cards and the rain has ruined them too, i've started so many jobs and just left them as i got bored, the interior now resembles a tramps nest, i have no roof lining no side lining no carpets kick panels or door cards in, the stereo is out as are the front speakers, there is no lighting inside as i removed it all to renew and just left it, i've not washed the van since before i went to wales and it is filthy inside and out, i've just been out and tried to start working on it but it's windy and spitty rain and i just can't be bothered so all i did was push things about and pack up. How can i get back the love? i'm hoping it's just because the weather is so rubbish that i can't do anyhing without getting wet so maybe the weather will clear up or i'll have a lot of people saying it's a mess at camperjam! anyone else suffering the loss of interest at the moment or anyone any ideas of how i can find the love for tinkering again? i know this sounds selfish to those doing big resto's etc but for me it's a bit annoying that i can't even be bothered to clean it.

  2. I feel your pain brother, I'm in that same quandary, I took it out for a drive about 2 hours ago just to get into the groove and as I drove down the drive and parked up I noticed that I have some drips turning the ground multicoloured (I suspect fuel) though I could be oil I guess, but it's crappy outside so I just covered it up and left it, not cleaned inside or out since Wales either

  3. Its the rain its enough to make you as fed up as fed up thing in a fed up place on a rainy day ,

I'm looking out of the window at mine , Ive been looking out of the window all week at it just sitting there in the rain , mind you i cant drive for another two days after the knee operation so its just as well its raining, which goes to prove every cloud has a rainy lining

I hope that helps , it certainly helped me ,
right I'm of to look out of the window again

i'm hoping it is the rain, i guess now i've had the screen sealed (fingers crossed) that if it's dry inside later/tomorrow i can put things back in without thinking the bits will get ruined again, hopefully this rain gives me a break in the next few weeks.

  5. I've been in the same predicament. I need to get it working and ready for camperjam but the rain has stopped me doing anything and it got the the 'oh it's stopped raining I can't be bothered now' but I got out in the van and found that after 5 minutes I got into it and I'm now back wanting to get on the van every dry period.

Trick I think is to start finishing jobs as the satisfaction soon brings you round.

  6. Its the rain! :(

We have six weeks to try and get Stig done and on the road, its my brothers wedding and the show over here, this time of year you would think it would be quite easy to get the garage doors open for a day or two so we can do the back and front of the bus and get the wheels and bits sandblasted outside, but oh no, the bloody weather has put right pay to that. Just trying to make the most of any dry spells we get, must go, time to do some more before it rains again! ::)

Like madfrankie says start finishing a couple of jobs and you will get some satisfaction back from seeing a result. ;)

  7. I think we all go through phases which are either "Full-on" or "Can't be bothered"....

Two months ago I was in the can't be bothered phase... I went out, pottered for a bit, started several jobs... and gave up.

I now realise to concentrate on one job at a time, and only move to the next job when the previous is complete.. Otherwise you just get bogged down with thoughts and don't know which direction to turn...

At the moment I am in a new, contemplating phase... and once this Can of Lager is finished I will move on to the next :)

yeah i reckon it's the rain too, last year i came in from work at 6pm and had 3 hours plus every night plus weekends and loved it, as i say i went out at 1 this afternoon but by 2 i'd got fed up, it's now dry again but i just can't be bothered to unpack and start over so i'm now planted on the sofa for the rest of the day....... does the weather look any better next week i wonder? i hope so.

Maybe a combination of rain and 'one step forward, two steps back' syndrome.

I reckon when the sun comes out things will be fine - especially if it doesn't leak ;)

yeah i hope so, i think it's got me down finding the raining in had soaked my carpet and ruined my cards and kick panels etc, seriously a weekend of "guaranteed" dryness would make me do a lot, you know what it's like when you can't have the doors open or leave stuff on the drive without it getting wet.... i'm seriously looking outside now and it's dry, but for how long? probably get my tools out and unlock the gate and shed and it will rain, plus in all seriousness i need to be 100% sure the windscreen has now stopped leaking before i re-do all the work i've done once!, thanks for the positives though, i'm sure someone will soon post just sell it but i know it's only banter.

  12. just sell it .... ::)

the rains got a lot to answer for ... if it wasn't raining id of taken the JK cover off and gone to the lakes .. but seeing as its persisting down I'm leaving it where it is .... I'm gonna drive up in the car and do a walk tomorrow instead .... screw you mother nature :-

  13. Forget everything else for now, Rick. Tomorrow will be a much nicer day. Cleaning it should be your first priority. When you've done that, just stand back, perhaps grab yourself a nice cup of tea and just sit and look. Look at your beautiful clean shiny bus in tomorrow's sunlight, from different angles, and the love just might come back to you. I'd guess all of us get down about our buses from time to time. You'll be alright mate.

  14. Ive given up the erb and im spending time trying to turn my life around at the moment and the van just doesent seem to be a priority in the grand scheme of things

Getting the daily through its mot has eaten all my available cash so i cant afford any parts and i dont want to drop the engine, gearbox and fuel tank and have them just sat there waiting

Camperjam will be in a tent and travelling by car which isnt all bad because ill use less fuel and get there and back quicker

Im sure that when ive got my life in a better order and some cash comes in along with a bit of sunshine ill be going at a quicker pace than ive achieved before

  15. Were starting to feel the same , got my mot ,im sure its not the same since ive had it back , n now niggly little dribble of oil , done crankshaft oil seal pushrods etc last year, im just gona run it till it drops now , i too am in the cant be arassed mode, weve put off two holidays in it coz of my back/neck and stinking weather, we are supposed to be off next week but forcast is marmite and its blowing a gale. Cheers rick i feel bit better now :- sorta.

nice to know it's not just me, as some of you know i'm fanatical about cleaning, even though my paint is bad and it's scratched i still polish it, but as i say i look at it sometimes and think why did i get that? don't get me wrong, i love the van but sometimes recently i've wondered if i made the right choice, yet i look back at my recent holiday and realise it was ace just being daft i suppose.

  19. Is it raining in England?

I am inside cos the heat is too much outside......Gota plant more tree`s for shade... O0

  20. Rick, I feel for you, I think we do all go through that phase. Just try knocking off the jobs one at a time, maybe you've tried starting too many at once? Perhaps focus on getting it watertight, then you can concentrate on the panels inside the van, getting the inside straightened out again.

You will get through this and start feeling the love again soon.......
