Dad’s first company car was an Ital estate in that colour which I’ll refer to as ‘buff’.
    Horrid thing.
Replaced by a Hillman (or maybe it was Talbot by then?) Avenger 1600 estate in royal blue, miles better to drive.

The BT vans in the ‘80s went from Bedford HAs to Marinas and Itals (which were also dreadful with any weight in the back but just about okay empty) which I side-stepped for a Maestro van by hanging on to my HA until the last possible moment.
    Maestros were fantastic by comparison.

To my shame my parents went through a succession of 4 Austin Maxis. One of which was that lovely British Leyland colour

My favourite, back in the day, was my MkII Escort van fitted with a 1600 GT engine and 70" side pipes :D

We'll have to have a meet up at the Festival of the Unexceptional car show one year as we all seem to like oddball stuff.

  6. My first car was a Marina 1.3 Super De-Luxe(!) in a fetching shade of yellowy greeny yellow called 'Citron' for that bit of continental sophistication. It was set off beautifully by the black vinyl roof, an upmarket feature of the desirable Super De-Luxe along with the cigarette lighter and the eerrrr, thats it for upmarket stuff:thumbsup:

  8. I actually quite like Allegros. Would've been ok if they'd done a bit more work on them.

Do you mean like a better design?

  13. Lol. I actually quite like the shape. At least they used some imagination, unlike the Marina.

Many cars have a squared off steering wheel nowadays.

If it's on a Golf GTI or something similar it's probably classed as 'cool ' but on the Allegro it was strange or at best quirky lol

  17. Dad had 2, a 1300 which was pretty decent and also a 1750 Sport:)D) which was truly woeful. I had only just passed my test when he got it and even with my limited experience I knew it was utter cr*p:(

still got a couple of Maestro vans doing the biz for older builders around here. They just keep going and going , oh and the chimney sweep still has one too and his gets polished so much it still looks in forecourt condition.

Ozziedog,,,,, yeah,, I could rock one of dem:)

I did a racing driving course many moons ago at Thruxton and the car you learnt in before getting into a single seater was a 2ltr MG Maestro! It did go a bit.

  20. There was also an MG Maestro Turbo which did 0-60 in 6.7 seconds, still quick today:thumbsup:
