  1. Cheers was a bit mad at myself for the push rod and was nervous about drilling the exhaust bolt out
I shall acquire the bolts I need from work (dont know why theres none in my cupboard allready) to finish the exhaust off as its still blowing a bit but it sounds 100% better allready :)

  2. Glad you got it sorted dude as youve had your fair share of problems recently

    Thats an exhaust valve

  12. Don't know how I missed it the adjuster wasnt locked off so I think it must of wound out
Very surprised it didn't bend the push rod
All tightened up now I think ;)

  13. right little update for this one
after still not being 100 % happy with it i changed the carb for a known to be good from a reliable source (you know who you are ;) )
but still feeling it was right i poked about a bit more and soon realised troublesome no 3 pot was out AGAIN so checked the plug and was wet ! i changed coil and dizzy cap just because i had also the ht lead for same reason
i then checked the compression and all where in at around 50psi
next i went to check the tappets again and found that both tappets on pot 3 and the dodgy one on no 4 had come loose again !!!
leaving me with this bad boy

i ve replaced the push rod and re set the tappets AGAIN but its still running pants any ideas other than check that you’ve locked the tappets off which i am pretty sure i did

  14. what's the compression like now?

if it's back up it could've killed the plug

  15.
  16. it's a 1600... it doesn't have any ummphhh

re-check your valve/tappet gaps in the morning, and recheck the compression

A long shot this, have you or anyone else put a seal on the studs that hold the rocker assembly. My mates valves would not hold adjustment and the clearances wee all over the place and it was noisy as hell. When the rockers were removed you could see that the seal they had put on had not been compressed by the stud nuts when the correct torque was applied. Removed the seals and the problem went away.

Perhaps someone can help, what do those seals actually do?
I have noticed that later engines have no recess in the head for them. I put some instant gasket on the surfaces to be on the safe side but I don't think I needed it.
