  1. We have bought a 1979 T2 2 litre camper and knew when we bought it, it had engine problems and would not start as it had been stood for 3 yrs, the bodywork is perfect and it looks stunning but will not move!!! My husband is away at the moment so you will have to bear with me on this, as i'm not sure what i'm talking about, but we need solex carburetors, floats and a retaining clip??? New ones are looking to cost £400 each. Does anyone know where we may get them reconditioned or second hand. My son is a mechanic so no problem with them not being reconditioned. We are in the stockport, cheshire area.

  10. I also live in Stockport and meet with the South Manchester VW club on the last Sunday of the month at the Four in Hand (Didsbury) car park where I get all my techie questions answered by Lol and his boys. 2pm to 4pm. You are very welcome to join us, just turn up.

  11. Brill, thanks BJM :) we will defo come along!

  12. Son has now replaced the carbs but it's still not starting, it nearly started but then flooded. Plus battery went flat and timing is out, so tomorrow he will have another go and take plugs, do some twiddling etc. Can anyone shed any light on what the problem could be or what to try etc before we have to give up and take it to a vw expert. Thank you in anticipation :)

you've semi answered your question providing you're correct in saying it almost started.... fresh battery clean plugs and correct timing and it should go if what you describe is true.

  14. oh I hope so Ricky, fingers crossed!

Double, tripple check the plug leads are on in the correct order. It's something I feck up with embaressing regularity. You only need one or two right for it to sort of start...

  16. thanks Zed

  17. Sounds better - all of what the above said! fingers crossed.

  18. Will keep you posted ;D
