  3. No interest at this time dude as ive slapped the seats out of my old car in lol

We need the gap in the bulkhead so we can get in the back to slap the kids

  4. They dont move, but you can out extr grooves in to adjust the angle of the seat back. The first ones i di had about 5 grooves in the back section, but i found to that to have the adjustability, i would compromise on safety. I just called them runners in the pic without thinking. Sorry for the unnneccesary anticipation zed & para.

  5. Started the final stripdown before the final rubdown. Doors still on but all windows, seals, hatches, lights, poptop, loads of other stuff removed bagged and tagged. Doors off tomorrow ready for the rubdown, still not sure about cutting the hatch for the sender, but i guess if i do it, i do it now.
    Anyway, pictures follow.

  8. So its been a hard week for me. Stripped the whole van down to the bare minimum, which is drivers seat, full cab left in. After the bagging and tagging, went through the whole van looking for final snags to put on the list in between waiting for filler to cure etc. Been using a small cork block which is about 5" long and 2.5" wide with abranet discs, and my festool sanders, 1 orbital 1 rotary&orbital. Also made a long block out of some MDF to save money as i have had no work for the past month.

Started with the sliding door, got that nice and smooth and gave it some acid treatment to dissolve any of the remaining rust in the seams.

the n/s rear panel had some swipe damage from previous owner, the whole nearside had a big crease dent that carried through the middle of all the panels, so this was a pain to sort.

The offside panel which we replaced was spot welded to the ribs as per the original panel. This was a massive error. In hindsight we could have bonded or glued these to the panel which would have saved me what has turned out to be 3 days of work trying to smooth it all out. Anyway, turns out after all my hard work and effort, its still lumpy. The guys next door are panel experts and were quite harsh about their critique of my handywork. One of the guys however said if i chuck another skim on it, he will give me a quick hand in his lunch break to plough it flat on the block. I dont know how to repay him yet but i will find a way.

Had the chips in the windscreen repaired for free by the AA so we could take it out without too much drama.

The rear valance repair, nothing too technical. I thought it would be difficult, but it just shows how easy things can be when you dont have to construct a panel, you just buy one instead.

Front panel is pretty good, just some remaining damage from the dreaded swipe that haunts the nearside.

Anyway, bit disheartened from the reports by the bodyworkers next door, over tired from long days frantically rubbing the van down and a few sleepless nights from grace being ill probably not helping the situation. Was going to go to volksworld this sat but think i need to steer clear of thinking about the van as my head is fried.

Hope you guys have a good time if you go, and if not, then see some of you at CoolAir Hayburner at the end of the month.
Everyone else have a good weekend.

  9. Awww chin up Phil, you're doing some great work and in such a short space of time too.

Have a good mooch around this weekend, get back into the VW spirit and hit it with renewed energy next week.

    Hope Gracie is feeling better.

Yes, chin up chappie. :) Setting a deadline is a mistake - I thought that was a bit tight. Not easy those bit flat bendy panels. If it's any consolation, you can buy that whole panel including the window frame and they're spot welded making the skin like a rollercoaster. I spent days flattening one.

  11. you are doing an amazing job
    bek :)

  12. Its very hard work getting bus panels perfectly flat so dont be too hard on yourself dude

  13. Cheers guys and gals. Hopefully a good sleep will do me wonders and a weekend off. I think i might scrap the deadline because its stressing.
