blimey you sure have your work cut out - good luck!

  2. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

RedOxide's right - standard rot.

Some bits of yours look good where sometimes they're bad - you didn't find holes rotted through the chassis hidden by the outriggers for instance which is common. But now you're looking you will keep finding more bits to fix.

Sills etc got bodged in the past because these vans weren't worth spending the money on and at the time would have been in better overall condition so MOT patches were the order of the day. Doing the sills involves removing the interior for starters - so if a bit of sill was rusty it got patched.

  3. great progress

dispite having to cut out a lot more, I bet you've got a moral boost from having it all in one colour!

Its amazing how a bit of primer can show up all the inperfections in the panel work :(

your doing a great job, keep at it and dont loose the faith ;D

  4. Cheers diddy. Just having it in primer did make it feel like ive completed a massive step in the restoration.

Abit of progress from this evenings work.

Passenger side top hat sections all cleaned up and ready for the inner sill, although I may replace both ends ones still as not happy with the previous repairs on them. I have come across a problem with the new inner sill though. When the sill is flush on the centre 3 too hats which as all untouched, the sill doesn't sit against the first top hat or sit flush on the jacking point/outrigger

Last nites progress was to flip it back over the other way and repair the front chassis leg.i wasn't happy with it before and there was still a few pin holes so all cut out and replaced.needs dressing still but atleast it's solid

Next up repair this part then close up the hole

  5. Abit more progress people. Finally apart from dressing back some welds, the passenger front chassis rail repairs are complete. All rust was removed and replaced with 2mm steel. Unfortunately no during photos this time as I got abit carries away and forgot.

The repairs arnt perfect to look at but more importantly they are sold and rot free. End of the day when there covered in stone chip and painted they wont get seen

  7. Small update.i don't get as much done on a tues eve as I would like to but every bit of progress no matter how small is all progress.

Finally repaired the ends of the floor supports and fitted the inner sill

I'm still struggling to find an outter sill repair panel tall enough :(

  8. Nice work on the sill repairs
I had the same problem with the sill/side repair panel, i ended up using a complete new side panel but then my rot and damage went up a lot further than yours
Could you not put a new out sill on and make your own repair panel out of some sheet steel?

  9. Or how about using a sliding door outer skin repair panel and modifying that to fit

  10. Not been on here much lately to do an update but there has been progress. Drivers inner and centre sills are now welded on and I have a new sill/ side panel from ah schofield.

  11. Few pics from tonight's progress. Only spent a couple hours on it but I'm happy with the progress

After making the template for the c pillar last week I didn't even end up using it for the repair. In the end I made this

The welds need dressing and a small but of finishing but it's now solid again.

I also managed to get the inner b pillar repair panel in place and welded. Against the welds still need some dressing as it was getting too late to be grinding

Next up the inner rear arch repairs :(

  12. All the rot you have most of us have seen. I'm a relative newbie but I've recently finished my rear floor support / OS inner and middle sills / B pillar inner and outer / Inner arch / OS tub / OS cab floor and arch. Nice work by the way. O0

Mine is in the sig below.

  13. all the new metal work is comming along nicely.......its looking good :)

  14. Cheers guys.im hopin to get another couple hours in tonight but not really feeling it ATM. One thin I'm not sure about is which panel to fit first on the side?rear arch or centre sill?

  15. I did the rear arch and the B pillar first then got the middle sill on .....but personal preference really ;D

Just looking back at your C post repair (which is very good :)).....but it might be worth putting a drain hole at the bottom other wise it might hold water which has dripped down as condensation.

I did this on the second C post repair on mine after welding the outer panel on the first one and forgetting to make a drain hole ::)

  16. Good call with the drain hole Diddy.i shall mark sure I do that next time I'm up there.

Small progress from tonight but every little helps. New repair panel to rear of front inner arch. I did get a premade panel from JK thinkin it would save me time but it doesn't fit very well, so out came the grinder and cut it up :) the first bit now fits, will do the other part when the b pillar outter is on.

    Freshly welded

And after a quick grind back and abit of zinc primer

And with the outter sill held in place

Any tips on how to address the edges of the panels here the swage lines are where the panels join? I was thinking abit weldin the panels together then grinding the line back in, or is that pikey lol

  17.
  18. Yeh the seams, but on the new panels they have excess on the edges from when they are pressed. I shall have to get some photos as its hard to explain in words :)

  19. Not much to report on but did get the outer b pillar repair in place this eve.took a bit if adjusting as it wasn't the same shape as the arch or centre panel.it might still need some adjustment but I haven't welded the bottom on properly to allow for further adjustments

Once I know it's the right shape then I'll weld up the cuts to make it strong again

  20. Again, nice work there chap.

Mine is the same, due to the lack of lower B pillar, C pillar and middle panel bottom, it's a freaking nightmare trying to shape the repairs.
