More filler or it's going to look wobbly. Run you hand over it fingers first, tips of fingers and palm touching. go all directions. Go up and down on the middle panel, I can see you need filler to extend over 2 or 3 times the area you have it.
[IMG] Shiney paint will make it look worse.

Same for arch I'm afraid. IMHO.

I wish I had a pic of my devon rear arch showing filler. The whole panel was fillered. Not deep, but fillered all over. That's quite normal.

Do the hand thing along the top of the rear arch 6" down. I can't see any wobbles on your pic, but if there are none I'll eat my hat because the way the OG parts of the arch are fitted doesn't allow it to flex with the heat, but keeps certain parts exactly where they are causing other parts to buckle. Heat shrinks the metal and that can't be avoided. Nor can you get at both sides to straighten it. Filler is your friend.

  3. It needs a lot more work zed. I'm not doing it I have to admit as I hate filler lol. I've got a mate doin it for me. The whole bus is going to need a skim tbh as there is heat distortion in the panels from welding and also the original panels are showing signs of being 40yrs old with loads of shallow dents :(

It'll be good when it's done, I was worried you were about o top coat it and be disappointed. Filler is a biatch when you first do it, but gets much easier with experience.

Don't misunderstand, I can see what a good job you've done of the welding from the results of what is really a small amount of filler. I'd be a happy bunny filling yours. What would you do with this? lol This was done "professionally".

  6. That's what mine looked like once I had it blasted. I'm shocked by what people get away with these days hidden under the filler. Yes mine will need a fair bit of filled to get it perfectly straight, but atleast i know that what is beneath is good :)

  7. I would cut it all out and start again haha

It'll look nice in those colours, very subtle!

Blue with red wheels? Listen to your other half. ;)

  12. Haha I really like the old school hot rod look and saw a baby blue beetle with red wheels and white walls and it looked awesome lol

  13. Thats just shocking I'd be ashamed to put my name to that if someone was paying, at least when you finished it it will be good

Oooo and it wasn't a little bill either! £8.5K for round the back (not bothering with ANY internal structural repairs) belly pans off, new sills without removing the interior, new outriggers, one new front arch. Then one rear window surround which they used half of, welded right along a bend then ground the weld off splitting the two pieces again, coat of primer, window back in. Yep that's it. And some storage. They said it just needed painting. I have since redone all the panel work, rebuilt all the missing posts, done both back window surrounds, headlight bowls, right across the windscreen at the bottom, defo closing panels, redone outer slider sill that that mullered the seal holding bits burning ruddy great holes in it, redone the B post outers and inners, fixed bottom of the good front arch, patched the bulkheads, done all the filler work and I'm sure there's more. There is! removed the whopping double devon roof, fixed all the rusty holes in the tin roof. All for about half the original bill. She was a customer I advised not to bother, sell up and buy a good one, but some people don't want to hear good advice. I've flippin ended up doing it anyway.

Oh - and all four coners of the slider window surround including huge chunks of inner cut from a scrap door.

It's getting painted any time now, but I'm not doing the painting, I don't like painting. :)

  18. Does getting paid to do the work help at all? I have nites when I can't really be bothered to do anywork on it, prob because I know I'm not earning anything from it

Only in the sense that if I don't do it I don't eat. I like the panel work, I also now enjoy the fillering, but only because I'm 1000x as fast as when I started! Filling's not so bad when you know you'll get a good result.

  20. I don't think I've got the patience for filler tbh. Well not atm as I know I haven't got a great deal of time to get this finished now :( atleast someone else doing it halfs the time as I can carry on with mechanics and finish the welding
