Slowly taking shape. Last nite I gave the offside rear quarter another coat of filler but I don't think I put in enough hardener as it still hasn't gone off fully so I made a start on the other side this eve. Very rough skim on the quarter panel but the rear corner had 3skims as I used plenty of hardener Also got the engine cleaned up and a quick coat of silver. Not up the unit untill Thursday now so hopefully the filler has set by then. Also Thursday eve I should have a custom radiator and mayb the scoops all mocked up by a friend to trial fit
Cheers @midmusq Small progress this eve but only had about 1hr solid work on it. Just more work on the corner this eve. Sanded it all back again then gave it another skim. Bodywork takes soo long lol. Also my mate bought my rad and scoop up for a trial fit before fully tig welding the end tanks onto the rad core.should be a really efficient set-up, but my only concern is ground clearance
Another 5 hours and 3 skims of filler later Still needs a lot more work but its taking shape And here was my mate the other night playing about with the rad set-up
Still a long way off @MorkC68, need to make the loom for the engine and bus and trial fit it, finish up fitment for rad set-up, then get it back on the jig and rolled over to finish underneath, then the underside and arches are getting sealed and painted. Once that's done all the suspension can go back on then it's time to finish the outside and sort the inside. Soo much to do lol but I agree, once its all atleast in primer it will have taken a massive leap
I'll get some photos of the conversion including the loom as it all goes back in again. It comes out just as easy as the aircooled engine
Taking a break from the sanding for a little bit as need to get chassis read for rad mock up hopefully this Thursday. Also finished the floor I hope although did spot 1 more screw hole I need to weld up when I was underneath. Edges sealed and also sealed over any plates that have been welded in The state of the chassis cross members. Front has had some previous repairs that are abit "pikey" so defo needs attention. I will prob make a custom cross member for the front to incorporate some ducting for the rad set up and I guess I'll just have to cut out and replace the rear one Front I have thought about utilising the standard heater tube front section for a section of ducting for the rad as I'm going to remove the totem and fit a heater matrix to make the most of the new found coolant And the rear one And finally for this eve, got some engine parts back fresh from being powdercoated
Seatbelt mount in place Unintentionally started abit of filler work on the front end And also played around with the rear bumper. I kind of like the look of it with he bumper mounted upside down.would just need to have a play with the edges to bring it abit closer to the sides of the bus
Another late nite/early morning return from the workshop but rear bumper is on and so is the front (kind of anyway).
It's been a while since I updated but i have been makin small progress. Finally made some new front bumper mounts to add to the chassis rails. Back on its wheels to measure chassis clearance for rad Mayb there isn't enough room. 7 inches unloaded from chassis to ground Time to rethink the radiator And finally its back on the jig
Havin a night off tonight ready to crack on tomorrow night and at the weekend. The plan is to finish and tidy up any remaining welding underneath and get the underside primed, sealed and painted, suspension back on then bodywork. Well that's the plan
Great work mate !! Mine is a panel van conversion as well. Do the jalousie window and the middle window fit both sides? As you can see my jalousie is on the drivers side and the handles catch on the rubber on the sliding door . cheers chris
Yes I know mate but are the windows interchangeable? now you have the windows out I was just wondering if the frame sizes were the same
