From what I can tell, when T2s were new quoted times were between >30s to the fastest being the 2litre at 20s. So I’m quite happy with 24.5s suggest the engine is as powerful as it should be. Being a type 4 2 litre People often quote their bays as really slow on here, so assuming engines are in decent order, I was wondering what variants are slow? I did drive a 1600 as a hire bay - this had a type the upright engine, seemed very noisy and had to cane it to get it to shift.
I seem to remember the last one was 0-50 as most people ran out of road before 60 My old 2.0FI singlecab was quite quick off the mark !
The gearing helps. As do smaller front tyres for making 60mph indicated a little less than actual speed. I’ve always been quite impressed with acceleration in the lower gears considering the puny old engine and the weight of the thing kitted out in full Westy trim. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just been trawling through my copy of Brooklands, 'Volkswagen Performance Portfolio' (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Volkswagen...dp/1855205025/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=). Contemporary road tests variously came up with the following... 1.6 s/p (Dormobile) 0-50, 23secs 1.6 s/p 0-60, 37.1secs 1.6 t/p 0-60, >30secs 1.7 (various) 0-60, 22.3secs, 23.4secs 1.7 auto 0-60, 26.8secs 1.8 auto 0-60, 23.8secs 2.0 (Devon Moonraker) 0-60, 21secs 2.0 (various) 0-60, 21.4secs, 22.2secs, 23.4secs 2.0 auto 0-60, 28.8secs
On the flat, I back off at 70mph GPS speed, about 76 on the speedo. I prefer the 65mph spot, as its quieter. But I dont think 0-60 time will be brilliant, as third gear only stretches to 50 and changing up a bit before that helps. 1641TP, progressive, JK single quiet pack, full flow oil system with cooler in a scoop. Bosch SVDA with an electronic module. Some wierd old dented coil.
