Basically the engine died in my brothers camper t2 1.6 took it to the garage. They told him to buy a just kamper one so he did they took the old fitted new one and the said they can't get it running right and the have taken it to two other local garages with no joy. Now the bill is due it's 776 pounds plus the engine. Just looking at some advise on what I should do. Thank you
What exactly have they been doing to try to get the motor started? Check for fuel? Check for spark? Timing? etc etc
He's already took it to two garages, reading into it..Im wondering if the garage has missed something vital?
If its a proper garage like proper customers go to, tell him to finish the job and you'll pay him when it's finished correctly. You might like to add "Oh, by the way, don't bugger up my new engine or you'll be buying me a new one".

What isn't right ie what's the problem? Also where abouts are you. I think really your best bet would be to get it into somewhere that actually knows what they are doing. Its not difficult to get a brand new motor running or diagnose what up with it.
As above, you need to find out what "can't get it running right" means. Then you need to find a place (or someone, maybe on here) that understands VW air-cooled engines. Get them to fix it, then send the bill to the original garage, as they reckoned they could do it in the first place. It's not hard to do an engine swap, and getting them going is p*ss easy. Moral of the story: never, ever take an aircooler to your friendly local garage to have the engine fixed. They won't understand it, and they'll likely c*ck it up.
I don't suppose this new engine also had new carbs? If it's bog standard it should fire up and run fine so maybe send it back to JK.
Makes you wonder what they might have missed off the tinware when it was 'refitted' . If they can't get a VERY basic engine running , or give you a reason why it won`t they shouldn`t be working in a garage .... That doesn`t really help but aircooled VW engines are about as basic as an engine gets . It`ll be something simple they`ve overlooked so not the end of the world - where abouts are you ?
I think we need the OP to come back and fill in some gaps. and make sure what they type is actually clear and understandable.
I hate posts like that, if you're going to come on and ask a question at least stick around for some answers! Where abouts is this bus? I know if it wasn't too far away I'd be happy to cast an eye over it and many others on here would say the same.
As said above, find out what 'cant get it running right' means. Did they check/set the tappets when they did the swap? ignition timing? have they checked for fuel? Is the problem the same as the old engine had when it 'died'?
I'd be looking to find out what killed the old engine? I expect they reused all the old ancillaries and the problem could well lie in there somewhere. Not really enough information to know much for sure yet
