  2. Right I have found out what the issue is.

    So piston broke old engine
    New vaga engine
    Car isn't holding idle
    Tried new electrics
    Rebuilt the single carb
Didn't work tried 2 other carbs failed
Thinks it might be the timing of the valves?

  3. Has he not adjusted the valves? If he sets them in the right order, he can check whether they open and close in the right places. Possible that Vege have put the cam in incorrectly, but most unlikely I'd think.

If the engine runs at all, the valves are fine. If it doesn't start, or backfires and spits like mad, the cam's in wrong.

  4. I've just paid the balance need to find someone else to sort it. I no he contacted vaga to find out the position but they guy didn't have a clue said the just bolt replacement parts into the engine. Do you think it'll be expensive changing the cam or valves :D and it starts drives fine just doesn't idle

Setting the valves is a simple service task.
Most DIYers do it in an hour or so...

  7. He does. If he doesn't know how to set the valves, you're better off elsewhere.

  8. Where do you live @jameswick89 ?

Let's get some recommendations going for GOOD places.

He's in Corsham, Wiltshire. I don't know any garages out that way.

If it'll drive to Bristol, bring it here and I'll do the tappets for you.

Not a problem mate, I don't want paying!
I'm about pretty much any evening and most days too as I "work" from home.
I've got a little'un due mid-March so it'd be best to get it done before then if we can.
We can set the valves and check the carb settings no worries.

  14. Just putting in my 2p worth, in my experience with new engines, they are only as good as the carb you put on them. I had problems with 3 new engines (blew up 2 of them) until I brought myself a reconditioned carb and after that it has run beautifully.

  16. make sure you're using the correct spark plugs...short plugs in long reach heads will make for hard starting and bad idle....but my money's on a vac leak

  17. little Video of it dying

  18. fuel filter , has it been checked to see if its blocked

  19. Off the top of my head, that looks like fuel starvation, as the thing splutters to stop. Fuel pump connected the right way round, and working? Blocked filter (as above)? Pull the fuel pipe to the carb off (not the other one), stick the end in a jamjar, turn the engine over and see if it spurts fuel.

  20. looks like you've a vac line missing from your manifold from the vid....
