If they are it's likely up above is spiffy nice and treated. I don't think anyone would go to that trouble and expense otherwise? Or mine!
Mine has welded on side pans. If you give them a good thump, there is no ‘rust rattle’ or bits jumping around inside them. It also came with a central belly pan, but I’ve never fitted it, as it needs a bit of repair.
"tis me, but 15 years resto - yes - if the pans are on and you can't see what's above it then walk away.............
That’s a bit harsh. In conjunction with the notion “something is only worth what someone will pay” you’re basically saying that vehicles with pans are worthless.
The '79 looks like the pans could come off ... Waiting for them to confirm that before seeing it as on balance I think I'm too much of a scaredy cat even with all the above suggestions on how to check what's behind welded pans
Mine's a 73 Devon and as such came from the factory with welded side pans and a bolt on centre section. I had to carry out a lot of welding when I first got the bus back in 1998 and not knowing any better I welded in new (repro) side pans as to make original. If I'd known then what is widely understood now I probably wouldn't have bothered with the side pans but I'm hopeful the many gallons of waxoyl have kept the rot at bay. I did drill a good few additional small holes to allow further waxoyl injection, I'll have to stick my cheapie phone bore scope in the there and have a look next time I'm feeling brave!
Hey Dubs Keep your Lovely Tin top If you need the extra space Then put them up in a hotel You will rue the day If You buy that blue thing I can see from a Thousand miles away that sill is full of ginger nuts for a start
I've got the same code as you can see from my m-plate below. It means i've got 49.5 years of unknown in there. I really also need to get my borescope in there but I'm afraid what I might find. Ignorance is bliss....
Pop top is just for us so we don't turn into the twins of Notre Dame ... and it needs to be RHD. Two in the frame at the moment. That 79, (a Devon pop) and a "smarter" one that's much further away, a tinny, and about £4k more No interest in ours yet. Going to peg the asking down a bit more
