  2. The best chance of getting rid of Putin appears to rest on his military top brass turning on him which is potentially looking more likely as the invasion clearly hasn't gone as smoothly as was anticipated. The civilians around him are all yes men and owe their wealth and power entirely to him so are unlikely to want to rock the boat just yet.

Had a really nice walk with the wife through the forests of the old Osmaston Hall estate ....peaceful and silent apart from birds singing and the swish of wind running through the pine trees and sunny .
Then ruined with the thought of that miserable stone faced T.at .
He looks like an old bag who has lost all her hair AND he looks like one of the Cabbage patch kids .

What on earth does he think he is going to gain ...It's not as if he's short of land ffs .
And the poor Ukrainians having to put up with this pointless lunacy . Rant Over .

Rumour has it that some Russians are refusing to fight. If this escalates, then Putin is finished.

I’m actually surprised that he hasn’t chosen to destroy Kiev with huge missiles / ICBMs yet, which he could easily do.
That is maybe a glimmer of ‘hope’, but I guess it means the alternative, a protracted boots on ground conflict and likely continued effort to surround Kiev and squeeze it into submission.
That huge convoy looks to be evidence of those intentions, if it were destruction that he intended they’d just bomb it.

What I’ve found somewhat a cause for hope is the almost universal displays of solidarity and disapproval from the public in other countries that can’t have gone unnoticed inside Russia, and is perhaps a key to possibly garnering a groundswell of internal Russian political, public and maybe even military resistance to Putin’s intentions.

I live in hope that he’ll become so isolated both globally and internally that he’ll undermine his own authority with his increasingly obsessive and extreme behaviour and actions, and it’s detrimental effect on his own country.

We’ve seen that China isn’t taking sides on this at least, further pressure that maybe he underestimated and misjudged the whole situation.

    We’ll see…

I'm hoping that the devaluation of the rouble and the run on the banks will help get the message through to the Russians that are otherwise shielded from a lot of information. With enough groundswell support change will eventually happen. I just hope that not too many people need to die on either side until that point is reached.

There is no way now that Putin will win in the long term. It comes down to how long he fights against any common sense and humanity. Or until someone finds another ice pick

The ruskies have spent the last 5-10 years adjusting (halving?) their reliance on foreign investment in preparation for the sanctions they knew would be coming. I don't think they are as concerned about where they sit compared to the rest of the world because so much more of their economy is self contained. Their armed forces seem to be 50 years out of date, relying on vast numbers of cannon fodder, some things never change, I'm glad I'm not a Russian. Such a shame, my small experience of Russians is largely positive - humorous intelligent people.

...and... whatever the rhetoric, Europe is not actually interested in helping the Ukraine defend itself. Our interest is in using the Ukraine and it's people as the expendable front line to defend the rest of European on our behalf so we're giving them anti tank munitions, rifles, sticking plasters and crossing our fingers.

Ooh - it really is WWIII now. FIFA & UEFA have suspended all Ruskie teams from competitions. You know that Putin has been a naughty boy when they get off the fence!

Well I do hope he has a very short life, one way or another!
Like, if he died in the next few seconds his life would already have been far longer than he deserves…

Something is driving his willingness to put not just Ukraine but his own people and the rest of the world at risk of destruction just for his ego.

He is definitely a paranoid mess, judging by the way he distances himself between him and his aides, when you see him on the news.
Could it be a mental illness, methinks, bought on by isolation because of the covid situation?
Or has he got something else wrong with him?
    Something is not right…

At.what point do the western nations decide that this can't go on, look at the rabble that is the Russian army , and sweep them out, the Russians have not even got the air, that convoy they have coming in would in fact turn into the road of death. The cabbage patch doll is threatening nukes anyway. They could be done from the air and with missiles without putting a boot in.

There’s a Telegraph online article suggesting similar @Soggs.
Not sure I can share it because it comes via Apple News so you may not be able to see it.

  20. However you look at it. This is the demise of Putin. He's undone himself here.
There is no nationality that can understand this aggression. Sadly it will get worse before it gets better.
