Hello, I’ve seen a van I’m quite interested in, but I’d have to get it to this country from Italy - possibly without seeing it in person. Two questions. Am I mad? And also does anyone have any experience/advice on companies that do that or general things to watch out for? Thanks!
Why would you buy one unseen? They’re not rare so there are hundreds for sale here. If it’s in Italy; go there, have a look, and drive it back.
Hello @Day Duncan from @SundialCamperSpecialists recommended I link you on to this too. This is the van in question: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264821326030
Sounds like an opportunity to have a great little adventure (depending on your circunstances/dependants/appetitie for risk).
Thats a steal for a UK registered already car. I'd fly and drive back in that no worries. Just make sure you have European breakdown cover maybe?
It looks lovely. There are no photos or details of the important bits though. It really doesn’t matter that it’s got new wiper blades....
You are either very trusting, mental or have money that we could only dream of. I can’t think of any other reason someone would spend 14k on a vehicle based on some pretty pictures from eBay. Good luck dealing with the previous owner when you get it back to the uk and find out the paperwork isn’t legit, or it’s a ringer, or it’s rotten as a pear or you get half way home and the engine turns into a seized block of pig iron. look on the JK marketplace. There was 150 listed on there in the uk for sale last time I looked
But if you are overly trusting. I’ve got a lovely golf convertible for sale. It was once owned by princess diana. I’ve had several enquires from fanatical American collectors who’ve offered me £80k for it as long as I ship it to the US. You can have it for £50k if you want. obviously I know that’s technically exporting a VW and you wanted advice on importing a VW but I’m sure it’s the same thing really
Now you got me wondering about the legitimacy of the OP I'm glad I have one of these money pits already
Cab doors don't shut properly. They say it needs a new poptop. Interior incomplete, dark and minimal, no cooker or water. LHD Is it cheap? I don't think so.
Looking at his feedback and the fact he's bought stuff from nlavw and other camping websites I can't see it being a scam. Looks a very nice van, is it worth 14k with the costs of getting it home maybe.
I’d ask why it’s in Italy if it’s uk registered. Is it owned by an English expat who doesn’t want to bother driving it back or doesn’t think it will make it? Dialogue is key, talk as much as you can with the owner and if you get a feeling they might be hiding something they probably are.
Who knows. They normally stand out like a sore thumb. This one doesn’t? The rest of the story checks out I.e it is sorn’d and uninsured .
I don’t actually think it is as I have just been chatting to him via WhatsApp. From the replies I can see everyone thinks it’s a bit mental. I’m not necessarily going to do it without looking at it and getting more information - I’m a very cautious person! It just seems like a good camper at a good price is all
