    I actually looked into buying an old Alvis Stalwart that had been used for tourist rides on the beach but got threatened with divorce if I bought it....I should have bought it in hindsight

    Mate had a Matador - rare as the rarest of rare things , also the noisiest of noisy things ...
    Engine was the usual aircooled item but located under the front bench seat .
    If you'd ever driven one you wouldn't want one

    I had one in the early 90's, a fawn colour with one blue wing that bolted on. It had twin carbs and never ran right, used to regularly conk out going up hills.

    Then met the now MrsP and had to get to London regularly so sold it for about £750 and bought a 205 GTi.

    There's no denying those good looks is there? I love 'em, but....I can't get over that.
    .... underneath it's really just a souped up Beetle. And a Karmann Ghia is just as pretty...stick a big lump in the back a they're a whole lotta fun.


    Some of the air cooled 911, now they aren't like faster Beetles at all; a supercar you can use everyday.
