Mine was unrestricted, I used to ride back from my birds house and had to climb Crystal palace hill, I used to rev the b#*#*#ks out of it
Owned four between 76 and 77. Started with a Gilera 50 touring, always a pig to start. Second was Honda ss50 ultra reliable but soo slow so that had to go. Replaced with a Fantic GT ,quickest ped in town but kept melting pistons. Lastly a Kreidler Florret. class bit of kit that ended up in p/x for a Kawasaki KH 250.
I've looked at it again looks OK to me but you might be right after all I had mine over 40 years ago, at one time I could take one apart and put it back together blindfolded
I knew a mate who had a friend whose brother actually had a Fantic Chopper, only one i ever saw back then
I got into trials riding through a mate of mine who used to knock around with a kid called Kev Halliwell who was a bit of a hero at cyclo trials...think he may have been sponsored by Jim Sandiford (Bury) riding Montesitas...the frames always seemed to be snapping from what i remember, so it paid to be sponsored or handy with a welder... can't believe how dated they look compared to a modern trials bike...classic bit of kit at the time though
DT50MX was my first road bike....replaced the exhaust and had the ports sorted...like the others had a silly powerband.....baaaaaaaaaawahay....got pulled doing 46mph on a supposed 30mph restricted bike as a 16yr old...ol' bill were more interested in how it made that speed with a 49cc top end....good times, before I brought the mad little RD125LC........
Never got my grubby mitts on a fizzy - did have a Yamaha TY50 - first bike and what got me into trials, then mx then sports bikes
og ones fetch good money...didn't they do a reissue thing? they were the nuts...until I had a ride on a mate's TDR 250 valve....stupidly quick for a trailie
My mates ty50 ate so many Pistons after seizing with the autolube setup.. Saw a ty80 at a trials event last year...what a classic...
Go do a search on eBay for fsie or rd's.....they go for silly money in fully restored condition......I reckon more than they were new.....if only I left mine in the shed for the past 30years......
My mates had Fizzies, but I went for the Suzuki TS50 ERK as it was a bit higher and it felt more substantial. To be fair, the unrestricted FS1E's had much more poke, but at least the Suzuki looked the biz! I once rode it from Plymouth to Exeter along the A38 dual carriage-way.... 40mph max all the way, with ooge gurt lurries and cars flying past me with inches to spare.... never again! Oh... and it didn't like cornering on wet cobbles at the Barbican... came a cropper a few times there!
sold this 18 month ago to buy a van !. I had the fs1se the chopper version in 1982. Had to de restrict it. Loads of fun racing AP, SS etc.
I had a maroon unrestricted FS1E and discovered if i took the head and barrel off and polished the combustion chamber and ports every two weeks mine was way faster than my mates. Big gap after that without bikes but been riding again for circa 2o years. Ive had an 03 Mille R from new and bought a Triumph Tiger 800XRX a a commuter bike last year. Bikes still rock in my view.
