How many of you had one of these beauties or similar and any memories you can share, I had a blue one which I had on finance, I did a car cleaning job and worked with the Corona man to pay for it, I was 16 at the time and used to ride to school, I think I came off about 3 or 4 times how I didn't kill myself I don't know, I can't believe my mum let me have one and even signed the agreement papers for me , theres no way I would let any of my kids have one
I never liked or had a motorcycle, plenty of lads my age had them tho, one had a Suzuki er50 ? I think it was? Yellow with a blue seat if memory serves, I loved the look of that though
Most of my mates had them, FS1E, AP50 and Garellis, i had a TY50p Trying to remember the others SS50 Honda, Fantic, Malaguti and Puch had a fast one as well
I remember them but my first years on bikes were on Kawasaki AR50s with 80 bottom ends and 100cc bore kits with the ports opened up to the max, reed kits blah..... then it was Suzuki Gammas and Yammaha TZRs.
I had a blue one in 1976 as a 16 year old I worked in a fish & chip shop on Saturdays to pay for it.. My mate Simon had a Honda SS50 and Richard had a Suzuki AP50, we would race everywhere, prone I could almost get it up to 50! Fell off and broke my left elbow on a wet corner but the bike survived. A soon as I was 17 I sold it and got A Suzuki GT250, great fun
Yeah great days I had a FS1E R reg unristricted, We had a few lads with a good mixture of those bikes you mentioned it was brilliant first real freedom, most of us went onto the RD250, KH 250 CB250 Super dream and Gt250 after that
I had a blue Fizzie, which got nicked, then managed to buy a complete Suzuki AP (in a tea chest) for a fiver (yes...that's £5!) which I built up and tuned the 'nads off, with a dull half-round file and some emery cloth...did nothing below 40mph then the ridiculously short power band took it to 68 on the clock (checked against my mates' equally dodgy speedo on an AR 80....I then swapped it for a nice old CB 50, which was a bit gutless, but I didn't fancy tuning a four stroke at that age...
the holy grail was an unrestricted Casal....(according to my Top trumps!) I had a TY80 for a while...great little trials bike but way too small for me tbh...graduated to a Montessa Cota 123, which was a bag of s***e, then saved up for a mint honda TLR 200....which also got nicked...I'd have one now, just for pootling on, but they're going for daft money in good nick
After that I had GT550 which sounded awesome, a real screamer. I then apart from A Yamaha XS650 got into four cylinder 4 strokes with little 4 into 1's fitted. Sadly that avenue of pleasure is closed shall we say!!
I had a mate with a Casal, I seem to remember it being from Portugal and quick but even less reliable as a Bay
Taking a trip down memory lane i bought a TY250 a couple of years ago, couldnt ride the damn thing unless i stood up, spent many weekends watching local trials, Bultaco, Montessas and OSSA, s dominated then
I keep toying with the idea of buying a early twin spark BMW F650 GS....the abs version...hard to find a bad review for an all-round run about it's the MK2 Golf of motorcyling...does everything reasonably well (according to owners' reviews)
