  10. Brighton Breeze year before on the morning of convoy mine drove about 6 foot then stalled and wouldn't start, going through the checks and after a while I found it had no spark and spent ages changing all sorts ignition parts I was pouncing off other owners thats where lined up to leave.. leads/coil/dizzy cap etc and through process of elimination it turned out to be the cheap chinese Pertronix type electronic ignition the PO fitted had killed itself.. so gutted the dizzy and managed to ponce some points and condensor (and the important condenser screw!) off a very kind splitty owner as the convoy was leaving, then had to re-time the engine and finally got it going! completely missed the convoy and ended up being the last van parked at Madeira Drive..

I don't have electronic ignition in my latest van and don't intend to..

So the moral is.. carry spares.. and plenty off them, as the chances are when you break down you won't have a couple of hundred other van owners to pounce off lol

  13. When mine died at the side of the road - and refused to start last summer in 30 degrees heat right in the middle of Windermere- after checking the obvious things - it was wait 30 minutes for a cool down then foot to the floor and it fired up again - phew so relieved.

  16. No - think it was just fuel vaporisation in the heat.

  17. wishful thinking ,do not drive anywhere above 30 degrees ,you`ll be alright in England...

One thing is essential to me is a wire from the starter to the battery to enable you to turn the engine without been up front ,had one in all my campers ...:hattip:

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Our Beetle came permanently wired like that, if you stalled it you had to get out and nip round the back. I thought it was good fun but I was ... encouraged ... to fix the ignition switch. The old boy who had it before used it like that for years.
