  3. Here's how the brake lever came out of the bubbling cauldron after 3 hrs....

might have to give the ends another little go at some point but really pleased with this technique as I can put a rusty part in and leave it there while I get on with something else :D

Looking good Dale, and I thought the epoxy/paint stripper fumes only affected my brain! :D

  6. Thanks guys ;D

^^ dont think I'm quite worthy of that statement ;D .......but it did make me smile lol

  7. 8) 8) 8) you are the man Diddy 8) 8) 8) i wish you had come up with that a year ago ;) its the dogs boll*cks .

  8. Thanks Craig :D

its pretty neat isnt it :D .....I might modify it at some point and try nickle plating some parts ....although not sure if it gives off fumes ???

speaking of which, I'd only use steel or iron as the sacrificial annode, any thing else may give off toxic fumes - such as galvanised metals.

I meantioned it only works in line of sight so I had to turn the bits occasionally so both sides got de rusted ......however, a modification could be to put a sheet of scrap metal around the bucket (I have an old boiler cover that may do the job) and connect that to positive that way I will get 360 degree de rusting :D

Alernatively you could put several anodes around the outside and wire them together - that would work

As a bit of added info - cars were originally positive earth, it was found out that they rust pretty quickly due to the electrolytic action (same principle as the de rusting techneque - the annode rusts a lot quicker) so that is why vehicles changed to negative earth ....so its a good thing to change positive earthed vehicles to negative earth :D

  9. last update from the weekend.....

cut off the side cover bracket from the off side rear window and wire brushed it to within an inch of its life

no hole but it is pitted

I took the decision not to cut it all off but to give it a good coating of epoxy mastic and I think that will see it good for quite a few years .....hopefully :D

gave the area a good clean up as there were a few other rust patches that needed taking back to bare metal

also ground down the welds on the near side track cover

then had to hack off the battery clamp which moved when I welded it.....heres whats left :(

so I had to make a new one ....was going to make it smaller - a bit more like the original, but I thought I'd make it the same as the one I cut off to cover the old welds

then gave it a coat of epoxy mastic.....it will also get a coat of 2K primer at some point too

then the off side window surround

inside of the front clip where I took off the raised bit ....this will also get a coat of 2K primer before it goes on

and a coat of epoxy on the N/S cover strip

and another coating on round the front inner screen panel and A posts

....definatly going to have to do some gardening and trim that hedge!!

Dont think I'll get much done next weekend though as I will be in London on Saturday as a birthday treat for my youngest .....science museum or Natural history museum????

  10. the Science museum is more hands on, last time i went they gave talks and experiments aimed at the kids which was cool,

  11. Do both. Science museum and natural history museum are both great. We went to them in february. Loads of walking round but couldn't decide which one to go to.

  12. cheers for the info guys :D

not sure if we will get time for both of em so might have to toss a coin and come back for the other one at a later date - my youngest is 5 next week and my eldest is 6 so do you reccon the science museum will keep them interested the most?

  13. good work bud, hopefully making a start on my windows soon,... must update the Ollie thread... and yes, get that hedge cut!

Where do you keep finding the time!

Nice progress, and every little helps ;D

  15. Cheers dudes :D

I'm pretty lucky that Mrs Diddymen knows I'm going to be working on the bus every weekend and doesnt moan too much, she knows Im doing it for the family so we can have some great holidays .....just wish I could spend more time on it :-[ ;D especially to try and get paint on it this year. I reccon I've only really got another 4 weeks of good (ish) weather for spraying :(

but as said earlier Im going up to London on Saturday for a day out with the family, then got Monday off as its my youngests birthday hopefully that should keep them all happy :D

  16. I'm still watching your progress, best luck with getting it painted before the autumn really arrives.

  17. They'll love the science museum. Loads to keep them occupied.

  18. Thanks Pickles :D

thanks for the info zebedee ....we will start off in the science museum then and move onto the natural history if they get board :D

  19. Had quite a good day at the science museum yesterday, kids enjoyed it .......For some reason London always puts me in a bad mood though!!

Anyway, back to the resto. It's pouring with rain today so I dont think I'll get much done on the bus, got a split oil pipe to change on the MG so I probably should change it as I've been leaving my mark all over the car park at work :-[ .

Didnt get anything done yesterday as we were in London but I managed to get a little bit done on Friday afternoon........

I prep'd up the side cover retaining sections I got ages ago. Cut a little bit off each end so I could drill a hole for welding.........

    then welded them on

    then ground down the welds

then cut out the little patch of rot around the middle window

new repair piece to weld in

cut out the rot on the curved bit and made a small bit to weld in. I couldnt hold it in place with clamps or magnets so I tacked a bit of metal to it so I could hold it from above with my hand .......here it is next to the other bit all welded in

all welded up and ground down

r />the little black dots are tiny marks from where I used the pick end of a panel beating hammer to tap it into shape

lastly trimmed the bit where the top of the front clip will be welded to, unfortunatly I cut into the A post so I'm going to have to run a bead of weld over it before the front clip goes on :(

and thats it, was hoping to get some primer on some parts to day but it doesnt look like that will happen now :(

  20. looks spot on that mate, good job!.. ;)
