just throw all the batteries off all the vans you have in and get on with the drive without alternator..... or buy another battery - have an adventure.

That is indeed one possibility, I drove the early with no charging for months, but that was summer and I wanna do a little tour round.

you'll be fine - look on the brightside - if you had injection you'd have no chance as it won't run for long without a good voltage.

 But I think fitting alternator on Christmas morning then taking van for it's first drive to york in time for din dins could be a bit fraught. are you doing your shelter ting this christmas? If I'd thought earlier i'd have volunteered to come along and help.

  6. I'm with my Mum this Xmas, 1st time in many, many years. I do background stuff now, logistics, sourcing, takes more time and effort but is also worth exponentially more to the cause. i.e. Getting hold of 5000 loaves of bread for free is a few minutes on the phone to Warburtons for me whereas it used to cost them £thousands. Likewise logistics of setting up beds for 100's of people etc etc.

  7. Offers there anyway mate. If push cones to shove you could have the one off my van. If you do go for it. Let me know in good time .youd need to factor in that your wipers will be on all the way though as well as side lights. Ive no idea how far you can get on a couple of batteries. If necessary you cam have the batteries off it too if you need em. Im not going anywhere in it just yet.

Maybe not because I just measured up a known good one and got the same result. :)
I shall now refit mine and try it out.

I'm dragging it out a bit this morning as there is now no plan B so if it doesn't work I'm stuffed and don't really want to find that out.

  14. Fingers crossed.

  15. Ratwell has let us all down!

  16. What should the readings be? Ive a dead one and a supposed good one sat here i could do with testing.

  17. According to Ratwell, this:

    • D+ and DF - 0.3 ohms
    • D- an DF - open
    • D- and D+ - 80 ohms

According to Zed's results, all open!

No idea but any pair of terminals is open circuit on both these which at least gives hope.

    But

While reconnecting the starter wire i smelled petrol and found the screw on type tank outlet is weeping. :(
