  2. Ah, but that ain't no ordinary bay tho' is it? ;)

I tow a fairly large Westy trailer behind me at times, fully loaded with camping gear and bikes etc. A god send most of the time, but mainly only for long trips (timewise) For weekends away we just minimise/load up van.

  3. I have a vintages westy trailer. Not huge but without it we would never get all our stuff I he fan to go camping. Last year we even loaded the top of the trailer with three days worth of fire wood!

Bays are great for towing because they cut a dirty big hole in the air for the trailer to follow in. For years I travelled round the country with my son and his mate and a double decker trailer with 2 sailing dinghies on it (lasers - proper olympic class boats). Acceleration was a bit slower, MPG not so great, but stonked along at 60 no probs when it got up to speed and didn't slow on the hills any more than usual.
When I did the same with a golf, although it's got twice the power, it was much more noticeable up the hills and didn't really fare any better.

One thing I've noticed driving bays around over the past 20 years is that it doesn't really make much difference to performance how ever much you load them up, probably because they are so heavy in the first place.

*** But personally I believe you look like a 2.2 children housing estate family ***** with a little camping trailer when you clearly don't need one and as someone pointed out above, you can't see the silly thing to reverse, so you're no better than a caravan on a narrow Cornwall lane. And as Dean said - if you need a trailer you've got too much "stuff". :) My parents used to take us (3 x 6ft boys) and all the gear to camp for 3 weeks down to the Med every year in a car without a trailer. We had infaltable boats the works - granted it was a bit cramped, but if you can't manage in a cavenous bus without a trailer, maybe you need packing classes or a clearer sense of what's needed to camp. All In My Honest Opinion. :) ***

i tow a halfords one which i made bigger by bolting the sides of another halfords one to so it's twice as high, i have a flag on it so i can see it's not fell of and for reversing, i carry lots of wood and a brazier in it, basically dirty crap so my van is clean.

lol mr zed, yes i do take my boots off and i have a dustpan and brush inside to brush the carpet off daily, in fairness it's the original BROWN carpet and it is in good nick but just having this last few months camping i'm already thinking lino is the way to go, especially cos the dog hairs get entwined in it.

p.s thanks L.C for the trailer respect!

  18. Probably a post for Mech & Tech but I've been thinking of a trailer for my Late Bay but I have a CSP Python and not sure how a tow bar would fit ???
