Which exhaust?

  1. vintage speed - best investment I ever made. Stainless to last a life time

Or the one I bought from Paul Weeding - what was that Paul, Turbo Thomas? A bit noisier than the vintage speed but a nice sound nonetheless
    :)

  2. I would like to make my own but not sure on design and flowing etc

  3. That was a LA Performance one.. But Turbo Thomas makes one very similar to that now ;)

The price you pay depends on whether you pay for Western quality or chinese warped cheese metal.
The EMPI exhaust on mine lasted from 2005 to 2010 when the bus was used in the usual leave parked except for a few hundred miles a year mode.
Once I started using it more , the second EMPI lasted 18 months and it needed replacing. So I bought British made stainless at 3x the price hoping to get more life than that..

  5. Need to replace my exhaust Type 4 1700 engine, I couldn't tell from above if anyone had fitted a vintage speed one to a type 4. I'm interested to know how big they are my tow bar sits very close to the original exhaust, which is now making loads of noise and hence has to go, its lasted 3 years just.

I also see a mention above of an LA exhaust are they still available or is the vintage speed the only stainless option?

  6. if bus is a "keeper" suggest stainless , going by receipts its 13 years old mine is and still fit.(13 years ago price £400 , make unknown)

  7. Steve, more than to replace with a a stainless one if it will fit just i have almost no clearance with a standard one (with the towbar) and if the vintage speed one is larger then I'm after knowing before buying, after that I'm not sure what other options there are.

  8. Vintage Speed v LA Performance. Both mounted to the same engine ( not together ;) )

Both fit with towbar. These are attached to 'j' tubes from stateside tuning.

Here is the VS now on a different engine in a different van and different type of towbar. This is attached to type 411 heat exchangers. Clearance on this one is about 1-2mm. But clearance is clearance so it fits without fouling.

  9. Thanks for pics, that's tight isn't it. Still not sure if one will fit, hopefully Dan from VS will be able to provide me with some measurements.

  10. I have a bluebird back box on mine it sounds pretty standard but deeper tone when driving
