Which exhaust?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by doubledecker, Aug 3, 2013.

  1. My 2.0CJ has been running perfectly well on the twin pipe GT exhaust it had when I bought it - always a bit of a throaty sound, but now I think the baffles are rusting though and the noise is a real head turner as I cruise through French villages this week. So on return to Blighty I intend to treat myself to a new one. BUT which one? Would like something a bit quieter.
Suggestions please and where's best to buy from. (Standard heat exchangers fitted£

Something quieter, I would have though you want a standard exhaust then?

  3. STAY AWAY FROM CRAPPY EMPI STUFF

I fitted a standard one on my 2litre after sending back the most poorly made exhaust system I have ever seen

  4. Suppliers?

  7. Thanks guys, saves me time and money. Will go for a standard one, which suits my "if VW fitted it why change it philosophy?"

Wow almost a grand on an exhaust, that'll do what exactly?

Think when the time comes standard will do, plenty of other stuff that needs doing that I can spend a grand on.

    steveagain and paradox like this.
  12. Get a stainless one, last forever and look good.
Keep the heat exchangers and change the rest.

  13. How is it better than the stock system ? Apart from being made from non rusting stuff ?

  14. Unfortunately a stock system is doing well if it lasts longer than 2 years... combine that with 10 years of bus ownership, and you've soon spent the £400 that a VS system would cost...

Where did you get £1000 from o_O a type 1 bus system is £380, and a type 4 is £420....

  15. just fitted a vintage speed to mine

  16. After reading all this I still intend to buy a standard unit from VWH at £119. If it only lasts 2 years I can afford another brand new one in two years time.

  18. Ah, you never said that ;)

I'd leave the HXs on if there is nothing wrong with them

  20. Some people always look for the cheap bits, including asking on here if anyone has a spare part, while others seem happy to go to the top end for fancy bits. No wonder the prices asked for these machines head for the stars sometimes.
