Before I came along, Dad had some sort of sports car which allegedly was a prototype for the Austin Healey 3000, was fiberglass and called a Hummingbird. Once saw a photo, but can't find any info on Google. Then old Hillman Minx Morris 1000 ( and a Heinkle Trojan to get to work so mum could have car ) Hillman Imp Hillman Avenger Talbot Solar? Sunbeam Talbot Vauxhall Cavalier Vauxhall Nova Ford Fiesta Vauxhall Corsa
Xj6 seemed to be his go to Car he had tens over the years Countless beetles Lotus Exel Audi 80 Sport (my favourite) Jaguar XJS Jaguar MK 2 Jaguar S type Couple of Golf GTI's Golf Clipper VW Passat B4 Variant 1.8 petrol with 400k on the clock Loads more that i cant remember
As best I can remember - Ford 100e van Hillman Husky Morris Minor(bought for a fiver and sold for £15, undoubtedly the only car he made a profit on) Austin A40 Hillman Imp Mini Countryman(complete with exterior wood) Mk1 Cortina 1200 Hillman Hunter Morris 1100 Morris 1300 Austin Allegro 1300 Austin Allegro 1750 Sport(worst car ever) Mk2 Escort 1300 Talbot Horizon(his first venture into foreign cars!) Mk3 Escort 1300 Peugeot 306 And finally, at the age of about 72, he bought a Mk4 Golf Gti! The Pug 306 had died and he wanted a runaround so my cousin sold him the Golf cheap, he kept it for about 5 years until I convinced him to give up driving. Most of them were bought very cheaply and scrapped after a couple of years though the later ones stuck around a bit longer. He was also very set in his ways about cars - No foreign cars - "the parts and insurance are too expensive" No big engines - "they guzzle petrol" Never buy a Vauxhall - "rust heaps!"
No she couldn't. She hated the things. She only had a go once, in New Zealand, and drove it into a hedge.
All the cars I can remember.. Hillman Hunter, largely held together with bean cans and rivets.. Rover 2000 tc, that had teeth missing from the flywheel, so every other start, we all had to get out and push.. Then a few 3500cc SD1,s that where actually OK.. very plush inside, and great for kipping in the back on long journeys.. Then a range rover that was Marmitee and lunched it's big ends at 50000 miles Nowadays he potters around in motorhomes, holding up traffic.. Mum had a load of French Marmitee cars not worth the effort of typing
Douglas motor bike and sidecar then a new 1960 Morris Minor tourer then a new 1973 Beetle until he stopped driving.
Ford Anglia 1200 gt purple stripe and roof Renault 16 Renault 12 Funny green Simca Hillman Avenger Vauxhall cavalier Nissan Bluebird And a TGA Mobility scooter
1937 Morris 8, sold it with a spare engine on the boot rack and a heater made out of a oxo tin box and tubes wrapped around the exhaust. Think it was his idea that started the heat exchanger design but I believe it was a similar setup from the Lancaster bomber which he was a flight engineer on them.
A great book to read if you're interested in VW. Even excluding the later emissions stuff, you realise what a rather creepy company they are. You won't like them much after a read. And you certainly won't like Dr Porsche. Five quid on Kindle. Recommended. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Faster-Hig...=gateway&sprefix=faster higher,aps,195&sr=8-1
