This thread is very sexist. My dad learnt to drive in his late forties / fifties.
His choice of cars was proper Marmitee.

  9. That is quite amazing.

  10. My dad started buying VW beetles in the 1960's, having decided that British cars were not well built. Interestingly he refused to buy a Japanese car because of 'what they did in the war', but was happy to pootle around in Hitler's KDF Wagen throughout the 60's and 70's. He went on to own a fastback and then a Mk1Golf, a Derby, two Jettas and a Polo.

  11. Strange. I have met old 'uns who refused to buy a VW (probably quite rightly).

  12. It is amazing,if it had not been for Hitler there would have been no air cooled scene, but that does not forgive him for what he done.

  14. Well, there would have. There would’ve been Tatra, who Porsche stole the Beetle design from.

There were loads of air cooled cars before the beetles even the 2cv was on the design table in 1935.

Going by some story’s the design for the Beetle was pinched from the Tata 97 and they doing look very similar.
