Unwanted rear swimming pool

  1. Hello all,

I seem to have aquired a rear swimming pool, inside, above the engine bay.
I noticed the unit has swollen with water, started pulling stuff out and the rear unit is now knackered, the flooring has soaked up a lot of water!
I have pulled it all out, and am wondering where it's coming in?
It seems to be collecting in a little gutter inside, under the rear window, then overflowing onto the floor.
Seems to stop on the end of the window.
    Any ideas?
I'll try and get a pic up tomorrow to cheesed off now

How are the rear window seals?
That's where it leaked on OSI until I replaced them.

  3. Bummer! If the leak has happened while it's been standing, it could be coming through the tailgate seal....you can verify this by pouring water along the top edge...if it's leaking here, you can adjust the compression on the seal by realigning the tailgate.....assuming you're seal's in good nick....a smear of vaseline works wonders

  4. Seals are all fairly new, maybe 18 months, they look new still.

  5. Defo not the tailgate mate, I can see where it's been coming in inside on that lip under the rear window, just can work it out from outside, I'll have to get out with the hose I think, maybe take off the cover trim under the window?

  6. It might be the cover ,underneath that it is prone to rust and might have a hole in it...

  7. It would seem upon investigation in the day with it raining it's coming in through the window seal!
New seal aswell, but had this with the windscreen, looks like I'll get it pulled and refitted with some sealant!

  8. Windowed van, or converted panel van?

  9. I was thinking you meant the tailgate window, rather than the rear quarter....doesn't take much for water to get thru....
the flange below the rear quarters are notorious for rotting, unfortunately

  10. Windowed van mate

  11. Hmm, guess that means. Repair before window can go back in then. Best take the trim off first and have a look

  12. it's the only way you'll find out....you may be lucky...may just be the seal needs mastic.... if it's the window surround and it's only slightly perforated in places, chemical metal will do a pretty good repair. Post some pics if you get chance...

  13. It's unusual for the side window to be leaking on a new seal!! Did the person who installed it, note any corrosion around the window frame while it was out??

  14. Rear Bike Rack per chance?

  15. Not sure mate previous owner had the seal replaced, it has been painted though although It needs a repaint I can see any corrosion from under the cover, I'll take that off tonight, last thing I want is to get the window out and have to do repairs in this weather!

  16. Took the removable cover off, seems there is only a nit of surface rust on the bottom, when it was raining yesterday I could see a small amount coming through the inside under the seal, but most of it is coming through about 2 inches lower behind a small lip onto some sort of gutter inside about 10mm wide.
I'm not sure if the water is coming in through the seal, then tracking in between the inner and outer skins where they join in the frame?

  17. Also how can I get the window out without messing up the seal

  18. Brute force and ignorance....they can be an arse to remove complete.....for what a new seal costs, I'd cut it out....
The alternative involves running some kind of spreader tool (like a heavy duty plastic tyre lever) up between the seal and the flange, knocking some twin and earth or nylon rope into the gap to keep the gap 'open'....shed loads of silicon lube around the panel and then forcing the window out....they go with a pop so it's a two person job IMO.....sure someone'll come along with a different technique, but this was how I removed mine....basically it's like fitting but in reverse

While it's so cold it's going to be difficult. These are the hardest windows to fit so presumably same applies to getting it out. Before you apply brute force check it's a toughened one, not a laminated replacement. I'd just cut the seal.

  20. Mine was leaking too, I saw a lot of water by the lock mech and on the right hand corner.

I have put a new seal and its fixed the water by the lock but I found out today the window seal is leaking I put a towel inside the boot frame and it was soaked.
