  2. Thanks guys it's always nice to hear people like it and they think it's being done properly, the bumpers are also painted but they were wrapped up so no pictures. I'm over the moon with how it looks and now the summer is over I'm in no hurry to have it back. They're expecting things to be quiet next week and hope to paint the cargo floor and get as much wax oil in as possible which is a bonus as I never mentioned wax oiling the van. Another bonus is that due it to it likely coming home in the winter and me having no garage (it's gonna get cold out there) I asked how much it would be to fit all the door rubbers and locks and the charge will be zero!

  3. I wasn't expecting/hoping for anymore progress until next week but I received a couple of emails at work today with the following...

    Still wrapped up
    [IMG]
    Unwrapped

And the inside all nicely painted

I'm especially pleased as I was only expecting the main floor of the van to be painted. Fingers crossed I don't end up with a much bigger bill than I'm expecting as we haven't discussed money since before I dropped it off and I haven't been asked to pay a single penny yet.

  4. I called the garage last week to see how things were progressing and was asked to bring all the glass down which was fantastic news as I've been moving it around the house now for almost a year! So I very very carefully loaded it all up in the back of the car and off I went, no pictures as by the time I was finished it just looked like a very large pile of towels.

The journey went well and the garage said they were worried it would get broken and would have their windscreen man "fit it all tomorrow" I took that with a pinch of salt as so far nothing has happened when it was supposed to, but I had some free time this week and popped down to see the van, much to my surprise it had all the glass back in place.

    So a few pix.

Not much light for this one, but just look at that mirror finish!

The cab windows still have to go in and the wax oiling and under sealing has to be done, but they must be falling in love with the Tigermoth as they've asked me to bring over all the bits I have at home, lights, bumpers, wipers anything I have so they can see it looking finished and take some pictures. So I'm sorting out all the bits I've built up and ordering some more.

  5. looks like really comprehensive work going on there, who did you take it to? looks really great mate, bet you cant wait to have it finished!

  6. A guy called Mark in Mill Hill London NW7 the garage doesn't seem to have a name or website etc

  7. Wow, the van has come out really nice, longer than the 6 weeks you expected though lol.

  8. Just a tad, I should of asked Wheeler dealers instead!

It's all working out though as hopefully I will move house soon and have a garage to keep it in and take my time finishing off.

  9. I popped over to the garage today and things are still happening, locks are fitted, wax oiling and undersealing completed as well as various door rubbers fitted as well as wipers and front lights etc.

There's a bit more to do and this will hopefully tie in with my house move and garage aquisition on the 9th January.

I haven't got a lot more pictures but here goes for anyone interested in seeing them......

  12. It didn't actually take quite as long as it seems as I called the garage on the 7th February and they said they could have it finished for the weekend if that suited me. It most certainly did so I said it would be ok as long as I could arrange transport of the van to which the reply was "Oh would you like us to MOT it for you?" so Friday the 13th it passed and I collected it 14th February, who says romance is dead?

I'm really pleased and never imagined it would look so good, enough waffle here's some more pix.

And I drove down to the beach where some rather attractive ladies showed a keen interest in the van!

The engine was out last weekend to replace some seals which appears to have cured a rather bad oil leak and the van is running really well. Now to get the inside fit for camping this August. Next job get some flooring down in the back.

  13. Looks absolutely beautiful! Any photos of the interior at all? My Bay has the same interior layout as yours did before restoration, it was in pretty good nick so I just reupholstered mine :) And its nice to finally fond out what the holes are on the back... Mine has them too!

  14. Thanks.
I sold the interior to a guy with a very early Danbury bay so it's currently a blank canvas, much as I liked it I fancy having a full width bed. I've started work on the floor and will post more pictures as things progress.

    wow, stunning!

  18. So on to the floor no prep required so I laid the speaker wires in place and put in some left over underlay from my kitchen floor which is spongey with a water resistant foil backing
    [IMG]
Cut some 9mm ply and srewed it to the floor
    [IMG]
I shaped the edge to follow the contours of the markings on the van floor
    [IMG]
Cut the edge of the vinyl and trimmed it down for a trial fit
    [IMG]
    So far so good
    [IMG]
applied some adhesive and waited 20 minutes for it go tacky
    [IMG]
While waiting I cut the flooring to size
    [IMG]
The instuctions say to go over the flooring with a 68kg roller and belive it or not I searched the kitchen high and low but didn't find one! Never mind, my trusty assistant who is far stronger than she looks took care of this
    [IMG]
    And so far so good

The final touch was a bead of clear sealant around the edges and bottom of the ply which finished it off nicely. I still have to varnish the edge of the ply but that won't change the appearance and if the edge starts to look tatty I will stick some edging along the side but I like the way it looks without it. I'm pleased with the result and another step closer to camping in the Moth this August.
