    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Your pedal is too far forward.

Unscrew it, take the hinge part apart and reassemble the other way round so the fixing screws are under the pedal (like they should be) when it's fitted back to the van using the same holes. :)

  2. Argh! Just this minute finished drilling fresh holes and repositioning! I'm a f****** moron!:mad::mad:
    *deep breath*
Apparently I started at the wrong end with this, should've fitted the cross linkage first, then positioned the pedal:oops: Still, glad to report moving the pedal back slightly gives a full range of movement without locking up. Have used the old cross linkage, but noticed some slack at the idle end, so may try the new cross linkage again, but after swapping the hinge round.
Thanks to @womball for his advice and patience! And thanks to @zed for his advice and making me realise the full extent of my muppetry... :D

I reckon your mate must've been well pleased having a mate help finish off his homebrew. A mission of mercy I'd say. A true martyr to friendship!

  9. He's fairly certain that one of his barrels started the night at 17l, but was at 13l the following morning - and that was only one of five...

  14. What a small world, ive seen you about too! I'm just down the road in Kingstanding! I got pros in to sort my van out,2 years down the line im regretting it,nearley 5k spent and im not 100% happy with anything, am now im skint doing all the work myself- mainly putting right others (pro's) bodged repairs! But your right doing the work yourself makes you more personally attatched...All good learning too, I can weld now :) (just!)

Keep up the good work hopefully see you and Tortuga cruising the streets

  15. Took the accelerator out, turned the hinge and replaced it in the holes I'd originally drilled as suggested by @zed. Happy with the result especially as the pedal no longer seems to be to far forward or flat.

Took Tortuga for a quick test drive with the old cross cab linkage in, then swapped to the new one and tried again with no apparent difference:). Repositioning the pedal seems to have sorted the issue with 'full' revs being not much above idle, though at some point I'm going to try and reduce what seems to be a bit of slack in the cable. I've left the new cross cab linkage in since the main reason behind wanting to replace it was that the old one was a bit FUBAR.
Overall I'm happy with the result (feels like my first mechanical repair!) although there's still more sloppiness in the system than I'd like; mainly from the 'S' linkage, which I'd like to replace with one of the rose joint kits by @Top Banana Racing :).

  16. Cheers @Mully_89!
There seems to be a hell of a lot of Bays around and about this side of Brum - I've counted about six or seven of various colours, both earlies and lates, but only know of two others on here (including yourself!)
Hope your fettling of bodges isn't as keeping you off the road and I'll keep my eyes peeled for another Bay when I'm out and about :D

  17. I am currently of the road, started to repair 2 patches in the seat belt mount area on my week off last week, ive ended up chopping out so much rot you wouldnt believe, considering I had the van in for a full body overhaul & respray 2 years ago,not happy, noticing a lot of bad repairs and rot/rust hiding under body filler, seam sealer and tetashutz (?)/waxoil. I think i may without mot for another two months plus (im new to welding and slow!)

Anyhow always good to know locals incase either of us need to compare stuff, get second opinions or borrow spares etc, always helpful I find with old cars

  18. Sorry to but in and ask awkward questions:oops:
May i ask what that resto cost you and how long it took?

  19. No problem, it took about 3-4 weeks and total cost was around 4.8k

I apprechiate its not a huge amount of time or money in the grand scheme of things, but I would rather of been told, hey son, your bus is rotten, get it solid n fix all the problems before you worry about a tarty paint job ha ha, I might not of liked to hear that at the time, but I think for 'enthusiasts' to hide bad work and previous crap repairs with body filler etc is un ethical. Also plating over the top of rust, for me is a no go. But tbh its made me keen to learn and do more myself so in the end its not all bad.

Sorry DSbS for putting this on your thread o_O
