I went to a local aircooled specialist this morning to 'assist' in them fitting a new windscreen seal. We had the old one out, I cleaned up any rust underneath, treated it with Vactan, painted around the inside with new paint, re- fitted the screen with a lovely quality seal...all went brilliantly until we pulled the masking tape off that we'd put on to protect the paint...the very same paint that came off with the masking tape...well narked, it looks like the top coat hadn't keyed to the primer...gutted

Confused, do you mean you painted the front panel then took the screen out and painted the aperture ?

No, took the screen out, masked off just below it to protect the paint.
Cleaned , treated and painted the aperture then re- fitted the screen.

Once done we removed the masking tape on three year old paint and it too some of the paint off down to the primer..

  6. What polish did you use with the buffer wheel?

Need to either paint mine or chrome them up!

Like the look of yours with the vwh White Walls, I've seen that you've had them done properly now, have you got the vwh white walls Forsale

  7. done nothing to the bus, but after a long absence here as the bus has been in storage I thought this evening I'd have a catch up, read through over 100 pages on this thread to get me in the mood to pull the bus out of storage in the next few weeks :)

  11. she's a 6 month old lurcher - bedlington terrier, collie, whippet cross - her parents are both grey but shes brindle - hence the name "Red" - shes a right ginger ninja, can't leave anything on the sides at the moment. It was her third trip in the van and she settled down on this one - loved the mud and sand and the Rossi. Shes used to the bath - spends most of her time in the water filled ww2 bomb craters over on the old RAF base by us. Looked good sitting in the door of the van dissing the other dogs as they passed...

  15. Replaced the driver's cab door...given I was guaranteed a day of good weather to get it done. The doors (Brazilian) were supplied when I bought the bus, along with what turned out to be rubbish seals and trims. I think I might have to replace the trims at some point with some better ones. The old doors were not actually in the bad a shape, but since they were supplied I figured I might as well use them! Anyone got any pointers to good quality trim suppliers?

One the plus side, I managed not to break any glass :)

  16. managed to rake out, rust treat, fill and rub down the "crack" running down the front of the van during the 3 hours of sunshine that we had this pm. Finally feels like summer is coming when you can do bodywork out in the open ....

Stopped twice because I failed to clip No 1 sparkplug lead onto the plug properly. It only goes 55mph on three cylinders...
Then ran it at 65-70mph around the M25 and over to Kent.

  18. how long did it take to get them from standard condition to a nice polished look? and are they hard to keep ontop of, ie will I be better painting white :)
