I had exactly the same idea, they said it might snow today so didn't make any effort to plan anything. Now the rest of the family are busy and I might have to do some gardening!

  4. Whilst following my wife in Devon managed to stack into the back of my own car in my bay. Stupidest thing i've ever done.....
Front panel now has a dent in the middle lining up perfectly with a Jeep Wrangler spare wheel.
Its not creased or broken the paint so hoping it will push out.

  7. First off this morning I treated the poptop canvas with a good dose of Fabsil waterproofer and then I fitted this-

    Nice:)

    Then I fitted this-

Sounds considerably better than the old one and can take CD/iPod/phone/USB inputs as well as the good old wireless. I'm going to move the speakers at some stage to the kick panels and hopefully fit some in the rear as well:thumbsup:

And no, I didn't butcher the dash vinyl to fit it, the PO did that fitting the last oneo_O

  10. Deflate a football and stick it behind the dent inside then inflate slowly and gently checking all the time.

  11. Does the fabsil make the canvas darker? I have put off doing mine in case it changes the colour of it. Was it spray on or brush on stuff?

  12. Is she claiming for whiplash of you then

Just come in from adjusting valves on no1 cylinder. Didn't bother with any of the others as this was the one that tested low at TE. Nothing seems untoward but can't really tell. The preload seemed right as I backed off the screw (I do it 1.5 turns) so hopefully it's just rings.

Incidentally setting up the bus at TDC, getting out the tools, adjusting the tappets on no1, clearing up & running the engine to test for leaks etc. takes the same time as cooking a rhubarb crumble in the oven assuming you've part cooked the rhubarb first on the stove top.

  14. This sounds a bit cheesy, but this weekend, what I mostly did to my bay was fall back in love with him :)

There's still so much to tidy up, but the stuff we've already done absolutely rocks and makes going away in him a pleasure :)

  15. Nope, once it's dried (about an hour or so on a breezy day) the canvas is the normal colour. When first applied the canvas looks darker because it's wet but it lightens as it dries off. I usually do ours every spring which is probably unnecessary but better to be safe than sorry - on our very first camping trip in the bus it leaked like a sieve, in admittedly a very heavy thunderstorm:eek:
I apply it with a 3" brush which makes it easy to work into the canvas though it could be sprayed as well but I don't like the idea of any overspray going all over the paintwork or our other cars. Any Fabsil that runs off onto the paint I wipe up with a cloth straightaway:thumbsup:

  16. So you work it in with the brush and tell where you have done by where it goes dark but it then obviously dries normal colour like you said? Might finally do mine then with the tin that has been in the garage for a few years

  17. Yep, exactly that. It's easy to see where you have applied it as the canvas looks saturated but it dries off within an hour. I open up the vents and apply the Fabsil to the outer face of the flaps from inside the bus rather than trying to force it through the outer mesh.

  18. Ah yes I understand nice one thanks

Built a voltage sensing relay out of bits of junk (components a couple of PC powersupplies and a relay) I had lying around, for when the battery charger/inverter has topped up the leisure battery to connect it to the starter battery.

I think the threshold is set too high so as soon as it connects the batteries, the voltage drops so it disconnects again.

I already have low-drop splitter diodes for the alternator feed .

It might be easier to modify the battery charger to provide a split output as well.

I used a garden sprayer to do my gazebo thing - I'll do the same with the van by maybe mask it up.
