  1. Btw @zedders ta for reminding me on pipe size. Picked some R9 fi stuff from Euro, was about a fiver for a metre which is more than enough for mine. Put reducer near pump and gates 7.9 mm up through fire wall and from carb to carb. 10 petrol pipe clips in total!!!!

I'm not going to list them.

  5. Do you have names for them?

  6. Rocked it while my dad walked round it to find a suspension creak. Turns out its front shock rubber bushes.
Took them off lubed them. They still creak.:(
    Any suggestions

  7. Picked it up after winter work at Type 2 Detectives. Fitted front seats with head rests; had head rests fitted to the rear bench seat (not authentic but tons safer and removable when needed); all seating reupholstered; new steering wheel fitted; birds-nest leisure wiring tidied away; front window rubbers replaced and new door cards fitted. Very pleased!
Only bummer was the sudden failure of the alternator when I went to drive away. New one fitted during the week so a great drive home yesterday.

@Borninabug Replace the shocks, they should be bonded not lubricated.

  10. Took it for a drive & the clutch cable snapped
Stopped and got it in second n cruised home swearing politely at people fannying about at junctions and roundabouts. Home safe. Pulled the loose cable & it Looks like it may have broken at the pedal connection but I'll need to take the belly pan off n have a proper look. image.jpeg

Looks like this bit has snapped vvvvv

  11. Swapped out the middle slider roller for a new one. The replacement had a poor quality bearing as @zedders and others had said. I already had one from eBay, so swapped bearing out and put new roller on.

What a difference! TBH it is almost orgasmic how smooth and easy the slider closes now.

    Here is the old roller

Fixed the 16 volt supply for the fuel shutoff solenoid as it refuses to open on 12 volts sometimes when the pipe from solenoid to fuel pump develops a vacuum as the hot engine cools.
With 16 volts it opens with a solid smack noise every time.

I built about five different versions as they kept on almost working . Discovered on MK IV that a resistor I had reused had half burnt out. Gone from 1 ohm to 4 ohms.

MK V had a bigger resistor and a bigger coil to boost the voltage.

Problem was that it was originally failsafe meaning you did not notice it had failed until vacuum situation happened and the failsafe 12 volts output was not enough to pop the solenoid valve again.

Ha, the old snapped clevis pin trick lol. Happened to us once, will probably never happen again but now we carry a spare...

Naff all - it's been away for over a week whilst it has new carbs fitted, and it turns out the starter motor has decided to misbehave, jealous of the attention the carbs are getting presumably, so that's being reconditioned whilst we're at it. And I've spotted bubling under the paint and we all know what that means:eek:

  16. Is it worth just replacing the whole thing or just the clip?
Was going to buy the kit.

I suppose it depends on how worn the clevis itself is. Ours went on a 3 lane highway in the middle of New Orleans so me & a random motorist who stopped to help fixed it with a cutdown & filed bolt! It lasted for years..

  18. Checked the CO with my recently purchased Gunson meter . Not sure how accurate it is , however it did show that the idle mixture on the left bank was very low and not adjustable , removed jet , quick squirt with an air line , jet back in adjusted to 3% . Funnily enough it is running much better . I think it may have paid for itself already .

  19. Not happy, the weather forecast was supposed to be windy and wet so we didnt make plans, Grrrrrrr. Anyways, its a beautiful day so the great VW camper van spring clean begins..................................in 20 minutes.
