    haha, overthinking it Fil.

I went through all this investigating mularky a few years ago & ended up tying my head up too! In the end, ignorance trumped scientific investigation & it works!!:D

Incidentally, anyone fitting the VDO unit will also find that ordinary wire is a perfectly adequate extension to the dash gauge from the thermocouple.

I got all confused and just got a dipstick sensor instead. At least it tells me when to go a bit easy on the gas. Not that I ever seemed to do it any harm before I got it, just that I'm aware of things a bit more now. Gives me something extra to worry about. Impressed with that 2CV kit though!

  11. Wow, they look amazing. Have you done upholstery before? Do you need a special sewing machine?

  12. Thank you. This is my first go at doing upholstery and I am very pleased with the results. This is one job I was going to leave to the experts, but after getting a quote of £600 labour only to make the three bed cushions using my materials I decided to give it a go. I got myself a semi industrial sewing machine from eBay and a couple of automotive upholstery books and went for it! I soon learnt I brought the wrong machine but persivired which made it a lot more difficult. You really need a walking foot industrial machine for this sort of work. Had to modify the piping foot on my machine as the foot wouldn't lift high enough to get 6 layers of material under!
I found you also need a lot of patience doing this. Worth it in the end though.

That is better than the seat cushions I had done by a professional vehicle upholsterer.

  14. Fitted a new oil filler. Lets hope that cures some of the engine leakiness!

  15. got the van back from the welders after having a rear corner and wheel arch replaced. Found all the filler in the world. not anymore. Now for the paint shop. That means that the van has had all of its panels replaced now.
