  1. Drove to work, discovered my efforts at fitting an oil temp sensor in the taco plate was nothing more than an expensive dash ornament.

Turns out, after much head scratching, that the black anodizing on the new taco plate was causing a bad ground.

  2. There's some idjuts about eh?

    Will your insurance cover it?

  3. Not worth the excess, £34 for a piece of glass from Heritage.... annoyingly I placed an order with them about 4pm today...will have to call in the morning and amend it! Bus has been taped, moved and covered up in the meantime.

It's a horrible feeling knowing that someone wants to damage our vans. Thankfully, it was just the window (little compensation I know).

Just take care removing the broken glass, otherwise you'll be finding it for years.

  8. Its an option - not so keen to put the weight up on the shock towers but better than the current situation!

Even before I knew the issues with mine , I was really keen on the French Slammer kit after speaking to @rob.e and seeing a few others - I have enquired but long lead time and I'm no longer getting any replies. Will try Limebug today and talk through their offering and lead time as well. I'd like to do the job once and to a reasonable standard, but if needs be coil overs and an ARB may give me enough that I can still make it on my holidays.

With just adding coil-over dampers the vast majority of the weight is still carried by the torsion leaves, the 100lb coil springs add minimal load to the damper towers. Especially compared to that horrible Red9Design EZ Rider coil-over conversion that puts the whole spring and damper loads into the towers.

  11. I broke an adjuster on the bug last summer, I know VW didn't fit these originally, so they're not to blame. Anyway, my point is, that it could have happened at speed, but VW's torsion bar design means the second torsion bar took the load. If a shock tower breaks at speed your off gardening and not in the pleasant sunny, bit of pruning the roses, type of gardening.

  12. I have had a chat with Limebug this morning, should have my new beam by Easter weekend! Frankie turns 46 years old on Thursday, count this as an over-the-top- birthday celebration!

I agree^, with standard torsion leaves (and coil-over assistance) all you lose is damping if the tower should break. Why anyone buys that Red9Design EZ Rider kit is beyond me; it’s a potential accident waiting for an inconvenient place to happen.

Can you use an ARB with the new beam?

  15. I will need to narrow an arb to work with it, @rob.e had some success with this on hist westy, with a cut/sleeved/bolted centre section, I'll look into doing something similar once I have it in and set up

That will stiffen the front bar, are you going to fit a rear bar to reduce the understeer?

Seemed no-one noticed I hadn't remembered to remove the covers off the new wiper blades.

  18. Yes, will be stiffer than stock width. French Slammer/Vintage Autohaus make a narrowed bar for their metric narrowed beams, but I don't know to what specs. I'm not aware of anything similar available for the 'typical' 4 inch set up.

Rear, potentially, I've driven it very little so far and want to get some miles under the wheels and get a feel for it first. Adj. spring plates and upgraded shocks are likely to come before ARB

For the front beam, I got Gaz adjustable coilover shocks... about half the price of a new beam.
Can wind the preload on the spring to lift and also adjust the damping.

For the window.. thats a bummer.
