  2. the pedal pan is an 'at home test' - obviously i can get to this easily with other methods but wanted to test for the small bits i can't get to under the bus.

I thought about using heat but there's too many rubber/cable gubbins under the bus for that to be an option for me. Yes, was going to try fuel as a final stage for the 'smears'. :)

Kerosene and a blow torch, what could possibly go wrong ;)
Still, on the positive side, no more underseal :D

Prepping for Volksworld.. discovered why there was a rusty hairline along the bottom of the side panel as I picked off a strip of filler about 3 inches wide along the bottom of the panel blown off by fresh rust.

That was the line of the first sill repair weld back in the mists of time. The welding for the second panel has popped the filler...

Its all chipped off, sanded, Kurusted, filled, primed and painted for now.

  9. Not in that order and I wouldn’t use the blow torch on the actual underneath of the bus.

    There is another way
You can freeze the underseal using co2 then it chips off in big chunks but it’s not a cheap method.

  10. The results are in... and I get to use up all that rubbish nitromors I’ve had stashed away.

  11. I’ve chipped it off where I can get to it. This was to find a process that works for the small bits in hard to reach areas.

I’m sure there’s lots of other expensive ways but I’m looking at viable ones.

  12. I wouldn’t use paint stripper underneath erm
It will get into the nooks and crannies and react with the new paint.

On mine I chipped/scraped as much of the underseal off as I possibly could
Then the rest got removed with rags and solvent.

It’s a crappy task to do I know as I’ve done the entire underside of mine whilst it was on axle stands

Mine would have been slightly easy on access than yours as almost everything had been removed.

Its worth it in the end though

  13. i won't be slapping it on but only where i can't get to easily with a scraper/mechanical means but can get to with some wirewool with paintstripper on.
also it will then be wiped down (white spirits or solvent), sandblasted, keyed and degreased before painting. that should be ok shouldn't it?

  14. If you can get wire wool in those areas
Then I’d use a scouring pad and white spirit instead.
Apart from that all the rest sounds good

  15. yes, i'm hoping scotchbrite pads won't clog as much but as i'm at home trying this, i used what i had to hand today to see what i needed to order.

before painting it will also be coated in Hydrate 80 too :)

  16. You will only need to do any areas with surface corrosion with the hydrate 80
So that will save you a few quid

  17. going to spray it on as where there's paint there's rust not too far away and the instructions do say about using beyond the rusty bits. Jim at Bilt-Hamber suggested it and no need for a primer then, straight on with the epoxy :)

  18. I quite like it. Going to live with the paint in its dilapidated state for now. Resisting puttingbracing nos on it just yet....... 46 lol)

The last 6 days really, the split was shining in the sun and the bay was looking a bit tired

So I have put on two rear arches, re-skinned the both door bottoms and repaired the outside of each dog leg, ive flatted from the waist down and stripped it and will paint it Friday, just got to rebuild it replace the crankshaft oil seal and auto pan gasket at the weekend then I can have a go at the interior.
