Yes I got the same answer from both the DVLA and the very knowledgable man at the main post office, if it’s 40 years old or older and it ticks all the boxes then you can drive it

Drove it back from Herne Bay. Still had moderate oil leak on T piece from oil sender hole. So cleaned up and epoxied the damn thing into the hole.

Repainted one heat exchanger where the paint was washed off by some spilt petrol.

Replaced the top rubber elbow on the fuel filler with a GSF version - thicker and shinier than the previous one.

Discussed my neighbours T5 - he drove slowly into a bollard in a car park at work.
New passenger side door and frame .. parts £1250 .. in garage for 2 weeks..
He says he is at least satisfied that the bollard is knackered too. .

Drove it, had breakfast in it.

  6. Crept up to the industrial estate in the dingly darkness to adjust my spotlights. Needless to say, soon as I got my spanners out, every commercial vehicle in Hampshire decided they wanted to use that road as well. Gah! Gave up, went home.

That’ll turn out to be a couple of hairy Russian Mobsters intent of divesting you not just of your clothes but of everything of value in your possession.

Took it to the Isle of Wight for the weekend.

Campsite was rammed though. Just enough space for the bus and my friend’s tent:

Cost a blimmin fortune on the ferry but worth it.

Was quite amusing as we waited to exit the ferry on the way home last night. They packed me in with the oversize Tonka toy cars alternately.
The Range Rover parked in front to my right had it in reverse as we waited. I mentioned it to my friend who asked if I should tell them. There was enough space that I knew it wouldn’t hit me, fully expecting them to put it in drive. Nope. She gave it full gas and it leapt about 5 foot backwards past my window.
    How we laughed!...

Adjusted the idle mixture to a little richer as it leaned out totally at traffic lights on Monday and kept on stopping ...
Did my back in Monday taking out the carb to discover the idle jet wasnt blocked..
(Actually it was uprooting dead gooseberry bushes on Sunday did it.. )
.. probably a split vacuum hose, a half turn on the mixture screw has richened it up. But I can hear the carburettor spindles hissing...

Put a new spring in the pull on the drivers side door lock made out of some springy wire.
    Put it back together.

  16. Added another layer of acoustic-foam-o-stuff to my engine compartment. Worked surprisingly well. I think I may winning the war against the bag-of-spanners aircooled racket coming from my rear end.

Went up the industrial estate (again), tweaked my spots. Success! They now turn bloody night into day on full beam. Well done, Hella!

Went for a test drive down the dark country roads, past the Vitacress place and beyond, avoided errant badgers, small rodents, mentally-impared villagers. Ended up halfway to Newbury, as I always do when I get lost.

Came home, had celebratory corned beef sarnie. Might watch a bit of telly. I live fast and furious, life on the edge...

  17. Used it, five nights in to my ten away for VW Action and Busfest

Pressure washed it, let it dry as it was a nice sunny day.
Then sanded down with 120 paper, lightly dusted and dabbed the bare parts with Dulux Aluminium Oxide.

Made up the wiring for the fag lighter socket / USB thingies, via a 10A fuse and a switch, from the solar panel. Can’t see why it won’t work, hope my crimping is good enough, and desperately relying on the TLB massive to point out if my electrical skills are down right dangerous and likely to turn my bus into a flaming inferno next time the sun comes out. Not going to connect it all up until the weekend when I can be around to keep an eye on it (with fire extinguisher!) Feeling a bit 50/50 on the confidence meter.
