Didnt see it today.. It failed an MOT re-test on ... different things to the first time.. different tester. First one missed the chassis rust behind the front valance. ..

60 man hours labour so far, and now another 4.... But Scott says it will be ready by the weekend for me to fill and sand and paint the sill seams.
    Hartland Point here we come..

Had a day off work today.

Two of us ripped into the crewie - again.

Fitted new clutch, throttle and handbrake cables.

Not straightforward as throttle cable conduit blocked and clutch conduit damaged.

Fitted new shift rod guides and boots while gearbox is out.

New front brake pads - just in time. The old ones were wafer thin.

New steering idler pin and 2 steering arms.

Cleaned an absolutely filthy gearbox - changed the first motion shaft and the clutch release bearing.

My expert spotted the front bumper was on upside down.

That was an easy job for me to flip it.

    I'm knackered and filthy !

Too weak to refit gearbox - it'll have to wait for another day off.

So, today (as we are going away Friday and my schedule is full) I have taken the van for a service. They found that a spring washer on the rocker shaft had snapped whilst adjusting the tappets so replaced it, replaced all the fuel hose and fitted the new gearbox coupler. They found that the threads in the head for spark plug on No4 are worn so I need to watch that and the dual Kadrons are out of balance..... On getting it home I found the rear bumper was hot and the large piece of tinware was so hot I couldn't touch it possibly pointing to a lean mixture or advanced timing.
......so on Thursday the old bus is going for its first ever rolling road tune up since I have owned it......I feel nervous like an expectant father fearing the worst.

Today my camper went for a rolling road tune up at John Sleath Race Cars at Conisbrough http://www.john-sleath.com/

They found several issues with the dual kadrons and must have had the carburettors on and off some 5 times in the 2hrs the van was on the rolling road (with having no inspection hatch it must have been a right bind).

It now sounds different, ticks over smoother and the response is sooooooooo much better. They found that the internal pumps weren't working, rejetted them both, balanced them, sorted the mixture and other tweaks.

I have never done a rolling road tune and will definitely be doing it again...........I can even reverse up my drive now without having to rev the nuts out of the engine to get power and no smell of dying clutch.

Yesterday got a phone call from Scott at SGS telling me my bus now had an MOT after 75% of a bottom 6 inches resto needed to pass. Only took a month..Very sad he is selling up and emigrating to Australia. He always managed to do a lot of work well and quickly.

Will pick it up on Saturday. Filling and painting begins.
