  3. very nice did you use standard white aerosol as did ours last year and paint wearing. did you replace springs and any pics of that.

  4. Following @brothernumberone 's advice from months ago, I finally quietened my clanking check strap. I'm now clank-free. I feel renewed.

Flatted back some body filler on the drivers side door for Majors rebuild. I am happy with how the reskin went :D

Oh what's the trick? I noticed ours were very noisy when trial fitting the doors.

That came out well fella. My doors look like they've been sat at the bottom of a pond.

Thanks James! I did see a couple of pics of yours. With the way you've tackled the bus, the doors will be fine, take your time and they will come good.

  12. Depends what your problem is. The later flat check straps with the rubber bumpers inside are pretty quiet. The earlier ones with great Spring Things in are noisier.

I'd modded an early one in my passenger door to fit a later bracket on the pillar. It made the most deafening KER-KLANK when the door was opened. Fletch as I recall suggested changing the pin to one with a snugger fit in the bracket holes: the pin jumping around seemed to amplify the noise. With a snugger pin (actually a filed-a-bit bolt), the strap's much quieter.

I think I have a loose temporary pin / bolt I put in there 6 years ago when I bought it!

We have the early style check straps and I'd not fitted a proper pin as I'd left them at home so used a broken hex key instead! That'll be it! I don't remember them being that noisy before I started the resto so it's probably fine.

  15. If the pin's not snug on the early ones, it'll make a hell of a noise!

Yeah the broken hex key was only holding it together very loosely! It made a mighty crack when I opened it.

  17. Hi I used 2k cream on them;) so should last the springs are the original ones as there still strong enough. And il be making my own canvas that's lighter than the original so should be fine:thinking: what pics are you after :)

  18. taking springs apart as mine need replacing

  19. Discovered I'd fixed my backfiring problem which finally completes my rebuild (phew). It was the head to manifold gaskets I think which I replaced rather than renewed when I went back to do the Bs and Ps.

Also finished putting together Powerspark electronic ignition and new coil which seems to have improved acceleration.

Stripped front wheel to change wheel bearings. Another bag of worms...
