The all new 0-55mph challenge

  1. Just done this and got 15 seconds from standing to an indicated 55mph on my Westy that has a standard 2.0 Vege recon engine, 1800 gear box and twin Weber 34 ICTs with K&N filters. I'm happy with that

P.S. I have a video 'a friend' took as I was driving to verify the above if you want it

  2. We were out in the bay at the weekend and forgot all about this.
Ours may be a little bit on the slow side, the C3 & the Leslie are quite heavy to be taking drag racing.

  3. Just done one run and got 4.8 seconds from standing start to 55mph on my Tintop that has a standard 1.6 s.p. engine with single Solex carb and go faster stripe on the roof. The was a patch of moss on the left hand porthole that held me back otherwise I could knock off another half a second at least.

  4. 4.8 secs, Do you mean that's how long it took you to find 1st gear prior yo pulling away :)

48 seconds then, about the same as my early when it was in 1600 power mode.

  11. There are modes? what like on here when you have no life and keep posting bubble an' squeak ? You get another faster mode?

  13. This is timed using the data log on the FI and revs relative to speed corrected to a stable GPS reading, so it's accurate. I did 2 runs through to a genuine 60 mph which is still in 3rd at just under 5,000 revs. On Run 1 I realised when changing into 2nd that I'd forgotten to actually use full throttle in 1st, which is why I did a second run.

    Run 1: 55 mph = 14.76 seconds, 60 mph = 16.8 seconds
    Run 2: 55 mph = 13.15 seconds, 60 mph = 15.35 seconds

On the first, slower, run I also started and finished on a clear mark on the map, covering 0.322 miles in 24 seconds dead. Terminal speed 70 mph in 4th. Although the longer box is great for a 0-60 time as it's all done in 3rd, the longer FD plus longer ratio 4th means a huge gap from 3rd to 4th and the acceleration in 4th is sedate and hardly recovers the speed lost in the gear change.

Westy camper with all furniture, leisure battery, spare wheel, gas bottle, roof bed, camping gear etc.
